Apple Inc. have been continuously excelling their own products and since the release of its first iPod five years ago, there has been constant enhancement in the performance of iPods. Right from the first generation of iPods with a five GB capacity, the evolution has been significant.

The second generation iPod was better in the sense that it was compatible with PCs through a fire wire cable and enabled many users to use them through Windows software. The third generation IPod brought about a great change by allowing it to be connected to pc with a USB cable and had a bigger memory.

But the marching of Apple Inc. continued further to release the fourth generation iPod at the end of 2003. The most striking feature of the fourth generation iPod was the size which was made very small and was only half the size of the original iPod. Due to its compact size, the overall appearance of the forth generation iPod changed a lot and the function of the buttons was taken over by the scroll wheel.

The size of the screen was also reduced to a great extent. With the iPod photo, emerged the screen color along with a larger hard drive and a longer battery life and was able to display color photos and album covers. Although these features were good enough to conquer the digital audio device market, Apple Inc. were not satisfied. They put their step forward in the flash drives as well and iPod shuffle was born.

IPod shuffle was the smallest model in the series of iPods and had an amazing 512 MB memory. Its unique feature was, as the name indicates, its capability to shuffle the order of the songs and was available at an affordable 99 dollars. In the line of the fourth generation iPods, iPod Nano is the last till date.

IPod Nano makes use of a high capacity flash memory chip that enables it to have 4 GB memory. IPod Nano has many features including calendars, world times, games and address books. The outer screen is a fine slab of glass which is scratch resistant. and is comfortable to hold in hand. 4th generation iPod has the click wheel design and is comfortable to hold in hand.

Though it does not have backlights, since the buttons are on the compass points, the re is no need to have backlights. The software is updated so that the battery can be used more efficiently and increases its life to twelve hours.

4th generation IPod offers a great capacity to store thousands of songs, photos and videos and has upto 24 hours of music playback and an incredible four hours of video playback when the charge is full and is suitable for people of all ages who want to enjoy the music and life. 4th generation iPod is a good addition to the iPod family.
