Drug and alcohol addiction is one problem our society is yet to conquer. The addict is often in a world of his own. He withdraws from family members. He prefers to stay alone and take comfort in drugs or alcohol. As a result, he or she may get into problems. He may be arrested for drunk driving and faced a law suit. He may be shown the exit door in his office for being unable to control his addiction. A little time of sobriety will see the addict promising himself and family members to change but hardly had he made the promise that he failed. After more futile attempts at staying off addiction, he surrenders and gives up the fight. This is when he is introduced to a drug and alcohol rehab center.

A drug and alcohol rehab center seems to be last place of resort when you or a loved one wants to get and stay off addiction that has ruined the life of its victims. This is a place where you have professionals that will be able to help you on dealing with your addiction problem. There are medical and psychological professionals available at the center. Your body has been conditioned to taking drugs and alcohol. At the center the doctor will give you appropriate drugs that will bring your body back to its normal state. But this is not enough. You need the help of a psychologist to counsel you on what to expect from every action you're taking. He or she will also show you results of other people that have succeeded.

A drug and alcohol rehab center can be either a private or government owned center. And there are others that are not for profit. But they all have one common goal- to help you or your loved one get off addiction. Depending on the type of center they're, their services might be very expensive. This is often seen among residential type of centers. Some of them are only patronized by the rich and affluent in our society while others too open their doors to the ordinary man on the street. So, if one center is expensive, keep looking till you get cheap and affordable one. But quality service should not be sacrificed for cheapness.

Then there is another type of drug and alcohol rehab centers. These centers are known as Christian rehab centers. These centers claim to introduce you to the supernatural power of God to liberate you from the addiction. They put you through spiritual steps that will take off your mind from addiction. They call it the Christian recovery approach. Many of these centers are fully sponsored by a church or Christian organization. Their fee is not often on the high side. You may be urged to join them in their church after leaving the center, but they do not make it compulsory.

Wherever you stay, there is a drug and alcohol rehab center near you. Whether in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, there are many rehab centers that are ready to help you out.

Let’s say you did a “man on the street” survey of Americans and asked them what religion they practiced. Off the top of my head I would guess that well over half would say “Christian.” That response might take a few different forms, as many would respond “Catholic,” or “Lutheran,” or name some other denomination. Taking their response on face value, you then ask them if they are a disciple. A what? You might follow up and ask them if they have had any training beyond the confirmation or first communion that so many kids go through. Chances are they will say they have not, unless they went to a religious school.
Everybody knew that “Jerry” needed to get some help with his drinking. His routine of having a couple of drinks with the boys after work began to include several after dinner drinks as well. The change in him was gradual, but over time everybody knew something had to be done. Jerry had missed meetings with his daughter’s teacher, and had not attended a soccer game or dance recital in months.
The expressions on their faces reflect their experience of helplessness and fear, when people recall what it is like to come close to drowning. It’s difficult at best to try to imagine what near drowning is like for those of us who have not gone through that experience, but the frightening tales that are shared in our group discussion on spirituality and 12-Step bring a chilling illustration to our understanding of the first three steps.
