Many airlines offer discount on air tickets specifically for students and the difference in fares between regular fares and student air fares can be hefty. Students do have limited amount of money with them and they have a lot of expenditure like the college fees, hostel fees, money needed for books and so on. Hence, most of the students avail of student air tickets when they get a chance to travel by air.

To purchase tickets under the student airfare category, a person has to provide the student ID or any other form of documentation. This will be verified by the airlines or the agents of the airlines before issuing student air ticket. Student air tickets can be purchased either online or over the telephone.

Generally student air tickets are available for students of all age groups but there is discount too for students who are under a certain age where the discount could be as much as seventy percent off the actual value of the ticket. There may be certain limitations like, students studying through distance learning may not be entitled to such privileges but different airlines have different terms and conditions and so, it is better to check with the airlines whether they actually qualify for the discounts or not.

In addition, there are certain online sources which sell e- tickets, exclusively for students and if a student becomes a member of such sites, he or she will be entitled for higher discounts on student air ticket. There are various factors that influence the discount on air ticket. For instance, student air ticket may be sold at different rates in different seasons and the route in which the student travels also has its effect, to some extent, which is meant especially for students and not for the general public.

Another vital aspect in buying student air ticket is that some airlines may not directly sell air tickets to students who are below eighteen years of age. A member of the family would be required to buy the ticket on behalf of the student. Moreover some websites may ask for an international student identity card or the e mail address of the college or university, the purpose being purely to verify and confirm the identity of the student.

Apart from these, there are many advantages in a student air ticket. Even during peak seasons of traveling, discounts are offered to students and for cancellation too, the charges are much lower as compared to other air tickets. The students can also reschedule their travel plans and airlines are more flexible than for other travelers. Thus the students can avail of the discounts offered to them in student air tickets and schedule their travel accordingly and enjoy the benefits.
