The landscape designs created for front yards will most always have a different purpose than those for backyards. Front yards are most always the main entry for the home so front yard landscapes are usually designed for entry and access. Additionally, the front yard is the first part of the property that visitors will see and this usually provides them with their first impression. Not generally created for a lot of recreational use, front yards are basically designed to serve as the entry and exit of the house. Front yard landscape designs can can often be as simple as designing the necessary walkways or driveways and then placing the rest of the landscape around that.

The way you plant in the front yard most often depends on placement, shape, and other aspects of your home. It is important that all the plants as well as other elements like fences, side walks, and driveways complement the home and not distract from it. The trees and shrubs have the capability to unite the house with its surrounding by making the building seem in proportion and a natural part of the terrain and softening the vertical lines.

There are two major areas around the house that need special attention when you're developing your home landscaping plans: the corners of the home and the doorway. Often the door is the focal point of the house and short plantings should be planted on either side of it. For the corners however, tall plants are a great choice since they help soften the corners.

Planting a few trees in the right locations can do wonders for front yard landscaping ideas since they also can create a frame for the house. They can be used to place the main focus on the home as the most dominant element in the landscape. Generally, you should plant trees with mature sizes similar to the scale of the house. Shade trees should be tall enough to shade and keep the home cool but not so tall that they dwarf the house. And just the same, planting trees that are shorter can make the house look taller than it actually is giving a total feeling of things being out of proportion.

Aside from the other plants and trees, an open lawn area is also important in most landscape design styles as it can create a good setting for the house. A front yard with a patch of lawn surrounded by clean flower beds, shrubs, and ornamental plants can add the illusion of a bigger space than there is. Keep in mind that shrubs can appear to be out of place if not planted in cultivated beds or groups.

Creating beautiful and successful front yard landscaping ideas always starts with a complete and finished plan. Even if your plan is to build your landscape in steps over a period of time, a finished design plan is important just as blueprints are important to building a home. Without it, you'll most likely finish with a patch work landscape or garden that is obviously just thrown together without much thought.Spend some time going over all that we've learned in this article and then first create a finished ready to use plan.

Front yard landscape designs often focus on an inviting entry while also framing and accenting the home. And coming up with a perfect design plan can be as simple as designating the necessary entry and parking areas and then creating the planting schemes around them.
