Ayurvedic Care for Dry Skin

Dry skin too is a problem just like oily skin. A person with abnormally dry skin experience highly sensitive skin. It also has a scaly look. The sebaceous glands fail to produce enough sebum to keep the skin moisturized. Sometimes the skin can crack and break.

External factors like extreme temperatures can cause skin to become dry, which gives a flaky look. The skin appears dull. The conditions become especially predominant during winter.

Causes of Dry Skin
There are several different factors for dry skin.

Heredity or genetics is an important factor in dry skin. Skin glands fail to produce skin lubricating materials like sebum.

Inadequate nutrition is another reason of dry skin. Fail to include vitamin A in your diet and it can cause dryness of skin.

Too much exposure to sun, wind, cold and even the use of chemical cosmetics and hard soaps can lead to dry skin.

The use of certain drugs can cause dryness of skin.

Care for Dry Skin
Don’t use harsh soaps. Use gentle soap to clean your skin and that too only once a day. Harsh soaps, chemical cosmetics etc have elements that further dries up your skin.

Gently massage your skin after applying some oil. Coconut oil is best. Olive oil or other massage oils too can do the trick. This will moisturize your skin.

Aloe Vera gel is effective in moisturizing dry skin and removes dead cells and bacteria. Just apply aloe vera gel on dry skin.

Continue a balanced with, complete with a lot of vegetables, fruits, nuts and such naturally available food sources.

Yellow and orange vegetables, which are high in beta carotene, can help with dry skin. Carrots are really good.

Drink 8-15 glass of water daily. By water it doesn’t mean coffee or soft drinks. Fruit juices can be added to daily water consumption. Mineral water is good enough.

Give your body enough rest in the form of sleep.

Keeping your skin glowing healthy is just about keeping your body healthy. According to Ayurveda, the complete science of life, there is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle.
