CAT Exam - New Format in old Style

 By: MKT Mukesh
The good news about the new Common Admission Test (CAT) format is that it eases the burden on students aspiring for a place in 13 IIMs across the country. It has one section less; the two sections will have a 70- minute time limit each; and the entire process will take a little less of your time because the tutorial and check- in components of the ritual have been compressed by 45 minutes.

The CAT Exam will last for 140 minutes, instead of last year's time limit of 135 minutes. The tutorial has been reduced from 30 minutes to 15, so the test duration is 155 minutes.

CAT Paper will have two sections instead of three. Each section will have 30 questions. The sections will have individual time limits of 70 minutes each. The exam will be conducted over 20 days, with two slots a day, so there will be 40 in all. Students can now report 90 minutes before the test instead of two hours prior. The vouchers will be available at 201 Axis Bank branches.

The CAT 2011, new- look test will be administered between October 22 and November 18 (you have 40 slots to choose from) at 36 locations earmarked this year.

From the perspective of students, this will prove to be hugely beneficial, as they tend to spend so much time on one section that they miss out on parts of the other. With specific time limits they will now be able to allocate equal time to both. On preparing for the new- format CAT.

Make your CAT Preparation keeping in mind the new time limit. In the past years students have always got some surprise in the exam hall. This time they've been informed two months in advance. IIMs are looking for brilliant students with exceptional analytical abilities and communication skills. Questions are set in such a way that the data interpretation abilities of students get tested and not just their problem solving skills. To answer correctly students could even point out that there isn't sufficient information to reach a decision. They have to really think through and then respond. This year's CAT Exam will be similar to the format of the last two or three years, but takes away all the headaches of students. It will test their knowledge or ability to answer questions, not their ability to priorities.

CAT is one of the top MBA Entrance Exam and the best way to crack maximum questions of CAT Exam in minimum time is to take 15- 20 online tests to get the flow of time right. Don't spend more than two minutes per question. Begin by getting the easier questions right. How much time you spend on a question and when you leave it will determine your final score. Remember, it's only the format that has changed, so keep preparing the way you've been.
