Cure Panic Attacks Through Interoceptive Exposure

Suffering from panic attacks can be very stressful and very scary. Panic attacks can come on suddenly and lead a person to start avoiding activities they enjoy for fear of having an attack. Not surprisingly, being able to cure panic attacks is a dream that most people who experience these symptoms have.

During panic attacks, a sufferer will often experience symptoms such as a racing heart beat, a dizzy feeling, sweating and shallow breathing. These physical manifestations of panic usually go along with an overpowering sense of impending death or disaster. Confused by their speedy heart rate and shallow breathing, the sufferer might believe that they have a physical problem--indeed, many people mistake panic attacks for heart attacks.

It is difficult for many people to stop the continuous cycle of panic attacks they experience. The anxious cycle can start if a person experiences as few as one symptom. When a person starts working out, for instance, their level of fear may increase as they sense their heart beating faster. The level of anxiety you experience will increase as your system copes with the stressors. Of course, these new changes lead to greater anxiousness which leads to more symptoms. As the cycle becomes more frequent, the number of panic attacks experienced increases; this can make it hard to end or prevent future anxiety attacks.

There is good news, however. Treatments that are designed help stop the cycle and cure panic attacks are available. A method that requires a person to experience the physical symptoms of a panic attack, purposely in a controlled environment is known as Interoceptive Exposure. The patient will try to create the sensations, sometimes by breathing through a small straw for a little while. Many things will occur that help prevent panic attacks from causing a disturbance in your life when the issues are repeatedly and consciously confronted without hesitation.

When you continually force yourself to experience the sensations that you fear, the first thing you find is that you will become less and less anxious about them. Facing your fears in a controlled situation teaches you over time that there is no reason for you to feel your irrational fear, and the cycle of anxiety which controls you can finally disappear.

As the Interoceptive Treatment continues, your panic attacks will become milder and less common. The symptoms related to such attacks are not inherently hazardous and can be successfully treated. Such treatment is often used to cure panic attacks and to prevent their recurrence in the future, allowing you to take control of your life.

With today's fast-paced society, learning how to deal and cope with anxiety are very important. Everyone has to find ways to survive the inevitable setbacks and trying realities of life, which include endless money issues, busy work schedules, exasperating relationship problems, and unbelievable traffic jams.
