Yes you can make curtains yourself, but another and better idea is to have custom made curtains. Go online and you can find several fabric choices that you can have those curtains made just for the size of your windows. Or you can pick many different styles and colors from readymade curtains that are available.

One thing to keep in mind when you buy curtains is that the color of the curtain can make a room appear bigger or smaller. So if you have a room that is very small you shouldn't buy dark curtains to place up in that room. As well you shouldn't overcrowd the room with a lot of furniture either. Both things can make the room appear even smaller and you don't want that.

Some people will actually have rooms in their homes that will look too big. Maybe they don't have enough furniture for the room. So to help that problem out place up a darker shade of curtain in the room. It will help keep the light out and make that room look smaller.

If you have the money for a complete redecoration you should change your curtains around.

Some people prefer blinds or other window treatments, but curtains add a warmth that no other window treatment can add. Curtains are available in a wide variety of color and patterns for your home. They can be found to match or coordinate with the upholstery in the home or to add contrast to the walls.

In the kitchen, cafe curtains offer a nice touch to the windows. These curtains cover the lower part of the window and a valance covers the upper portion, however, there is space between the two that allows natural light to filer through. In addition, the break between the curtain and the valance allows you to see outside while you go about your tasks in the kitchen.

In the living room, drapes offer privacy at night and can block the heat from the sun during the day. If the drapes are installed on a traverse rod, they can be easily opened or closed according to your needs. Solid color curtains help to add elegance to a room. Sheer panels can be used to allow the light to filter through but still give you privacy when inside your home.

In the dining room, drapes can keep the sun from blinding the family as the enjoy a meal together. Using a traverse rod for these curtains allows you to open up those windows in the morning to allow the sun to shine in the room for warmth and light. You may want to choose a tablecloth that coordinates with those drapes for a finished look to the room.

In the bedroom, curtains offer privacy from the outside world. If you enjoy a very dark room for sleeping, choose room darkening curtains. In addition to offering privacy, they will keep the early sunlight from waking you before you are ready to get out of bed.

In the bathroom, you will not only want curtains for privacy that cover the window, you will also want a coordinating shower curtain. If you choose a cloth shower curtain, add a plastic shower curtain liner underneath to prevent the water spray from soaking the bathroom.
