If you are considering a teeth whitening system to give you cleaner teeth and a brighter smile, look no further than your dentist's office. While there are many products on the market today that offer choices in home whitening systems, your dentist's teeth whitening systems will offer the best and longest lasting results. There are a couple of options in teeth whitening through your dentist's office. One is a treatment that takes place entirely in the office under the watchful eye of your dentist. This process usually takes about an hour to complete and may require anywhere from one to a dozen sessions.

Another option is to have your dentist craft a mouth guard that is customized to fit your teeth, and use that at home with a whitening gel that your dentist provides. Whichever process you and your dentist choose, you will be on your way to whiter teeth with little time and effort. Cost is another issue, however. Depending on where you live, a teeth whitening with your dentist can cost anywhere from $300 to $500 or more. Most people that have had teeth whitening done at a dentist's office would agree that the aesthetic value of the procedure is worth every penny.

The Procedure for Teeth Whitening with your Dentist

Before beginning the teeth whitening process, your dentist will make sure that your teeth are clean and polished. He will also make note of your pre-whitening shade of teeth, so that you can see the results after the process is completed. He will protect your gums by covering them with some sort of protective dental dam so that they will not come in contact with any of the irritating chemicals used in the whitening process. He will also probably use a device like a lip retractor to give him plenty of room to work in your mouth. Once the preliminary steps are completed, your dentist will begin painting the whitening gel on your teeth. This gel will need to set on your teeth for a number of minutes. Some dentists will use a curing light or laser to help the process along.

Once the teeth whitening has been completed in the dentist's office, you may have the option of continuing treatments at home with a mouth guard and whitening gel. The guard will be customized to your mouth by your dentist, and he will provide you with the whitening gel to apply into the guard before putting it over your teeth. You may be advised to wear this guard for a short period of time each day or overnight depending on the gel used and the amount of whitening that is required. Once you go home with your guard and gel, your time at the dentist for teeth whitening is basically complete.

Teeth whitening at your dentist's office is a great way to a brighter smile and cleaner teeth. If you are considering a teeth whitening treatment, talk to your dentist about the best course of whitening treatment for you.
