It has become regular practice to submit a dissertation report for completion of any degree. Dissertation work is the most important for scoring a good grade for any degree, and presentation, clarity and accuracy of the work are the keys to successful dissertation editing and writing. Editing and revision of any written document is as important as writing the document itself; you will be unable to impress readers with your paper if it hasn’t been well edited. While your report is being evaluated, the reader looks out for a specific pattern of arrangement in your work; therefore, editing becomes very important. Equally important is the revision of your work to find out any mistakes. The following sections are focused on the importance of editing and revision of your dissertation.

Just like reading a newspaper, we all expect a document to be well edited and information to be presented in resulting sections – having important news at the start, moderate news in the middle and reviewing news towards the end. Similarly, editing a dissertation report is also important. Your report examiner is looking for your report to be full of information, but also a report that has been edited and is written and formatted in a defining manner, with important points being highlighted. Moreover, they expect your paper to be free from errors and your argument to flow. So a thorough revision of the report becomes important.

Think of a situation where you have wanted to write a word meaning “we all” and by mistake you write “well”, it changes the meaning of the whole sentence. Therefore, there is a need here for you to review your work. If you don’t review your paper thoroughly, then the overall meaning of your writing, research and argument may deteriorate and the standard of your paper will not enlighten the reader as you will have hoped; thus resulting in fewer marks and an overall lower grade.

One main question you will probably asking at this point is how you can effectively edit and thoroughly review your paper. The answer is to follow a few points:

1. Editing – when editing you should consider:
a. Don’t leave editing to the last minute and give yourself time to complete it, as it is an important step. While writing the report, edit the sections as they come up, and by doing so, you will make your job easier and more efficient.
b. Follow the proper format of writing your report. Have at least 2 – 3 sample reports with you and follow the format that they use to learn how your paper should be structure. Make each section presents to the reader where they are in the report process.
c. Highlight the important points, by emphasizing them in your paper, spending more time on their explanation and evaluation.
d. Use a proper editing tool, leaving you with more options to edit. Generally, MS Word is the optimal choice.

2. Review – When reviewing your written work, you should consider the following:
a. Review each section separately, and give adequate time for each section. You should spend a considerable amount of time reviewing and revising your work.
b. Print off your work. It helps if you review your work on paper, than on the screen in front of you, as this allows you to concentrate more and it’s easier on your eyes. You will also find it easier to find more mistakes when reviewing your paper in this way.

These are a few steps that, when followed with full sincerity, will make it easier for you achieve a better grade. Finally, you should give equal time and importance to dissertation editing and review, as you have given to the actual writing of your report.
