You have purchased your dream boat. Finally. You know you need a dock and a boat lift. So how do you make an educated choice. Here are some dock and boat lift facts that will help you make this important decision.

When purchasing your boat lift, you will need to know the make and model of your boat, how long it is, and how wide it is. Next you will need to know the make, model, and horsepower of you motor. All of this information is very important in knowing what size of boat lift you need. Boat lifts are rated
by weight. So, if your boat is 20' long and 90" wide, and it weighs about 2000lbs. with the motor, the lift you buy needs to accomodate this.
Another thing to consider, when buying your boat lift, is the depth of the water that you will be putting it into.

There are two types of boat lifts on the market. One is a canilever boat lift. A canilever boat lift is used in 30 inches to 5 feet of water. The bed comes down at an angle. The second is called a vertical boat lift. The bed on this model goes straight down and straight up.This is best used in very shallow water and very deep water. A vertical boat lift raises your boat higher and lowers your boat lower than other boat lifts.

Now you need a dock to get out to your boat and lift.

When purchasing your dock, you will need to know how long you want it to be and what kind of decking you want it to have. Docks are usually 4 feet wide and as long as you want. There are many kinds of decking to choose from also. It all depends on what you like and what your lake association
allows. Aluminum docks are virtually maintance-free. There are many different designs, so this could be a hard choice. The best choice would be a sturdy, aluminum dock with good structual support.

I hope this information helps you make good decisions when purchasing your dock and boat lift for your new boat.
