Normally hair has a moisture content of approximately 10% and the drop below this level leads to dryness of your hair when there is a need of extra care to increase the hairs ability to attract and retain moisture and this is accomplish by using moisturizer. It is difficult to manage dry textured hair. Although there is numerous hairs care products that we see on the TV all which promises to treat dry, textured hair but that is not enough as we are still uninformed about the affectivity and efficiency of these hair care products. The reasons behind the dryness of hair are various and they may involve massive application of hair sprays, gels, etc. and these products can gradually create build up that is the biggest cause of blocking moisturizers from having maximum effect leaving the hair dry. Dryness can be caused due to another reason and that is the inability of getting the scalp natural oil called sebum when the hair grows past the neck line.

Whatever you do and whatever hair product you apply to your hair it is important that first you must properly clean your hair that involves removal of all the products you use to style your hair. If you have dandruff then it becomes essential that remove dandruff first using shampoos that deliberately aims at removing it. You will find many cheaper shampoos but take care they will just remove the dandruff in your hair, but not treat your dry scalp and will just make worse the problem when you try to treat and style your hair.

Follow with applying good moisture as soon as you have successfully finished your hair cleaning chores. You will come across several moisturizers in the market but again it is reminded that do not go for cheap moisturizer that can be detrimental to your hair and cause it to dry out even more. Good hair moisturizer that have "humectants" because they not only replace lost moisture but actually attract moisture and retain it in the cortex of the hair. Essential fatty aids (EFA s) are considered great moisturizers for your hair and you will surprise to know that safflower oil that is sold in the market as cooking oil is rich is EFA s and works excellent for your hair. It is one of the best and most effective methods of treating dry hair. Just applying 1 or 2 drops of safflower oil to your dry hair will create wonders. Taking only 1 or 2 drops of oil in your palms and rubbing them together is enough to make your hands "shine" in the light. Then apply that oil to your hair when it is dry starting from your ENDS first and gradually working towards the SCALP. This will ensure your dry hair to have the proper amount of humectants to attract and retain moisture. Organic based hair moisturizers and oils also tend to have the best effect.

It is also important how you apply moisturizer to your hair. The proper way is to apply moisturizer by lifting your hair and applying it to the base or roots of your hair first and then apply it to the full length of your hair. Such application will ensure proper application to both your hair and scalp. How long you leave it in and how often you should apply moisturizer depends upon the degree of dryness of your hair. Although the rule says that 2-3 times per week for maintenance and 4-5 times for the first week is enough and beneficial.
