Everyone is unique. That's why finding the best treatment for dry itchy skin varies among individuals. What seems to be the best dry skin treatment for one person may not work at all for another. One person may have dry skin because of a medical condition such as diabetes, while another may be struggling with symptoms from a food allergy. In addition, one needs a treatment for dry skin around eyes or on the hands, while others are afflicted with dry itchy skin all over.

Dry Eyes:
Some people need to find a treatment for dry skin around eyes that will help. It is not uncommon for even very young people to have flaky dry skin in the eye area. Petroleum jelly can be used around the eyes. Another natural cream that will help is one containing propolis. Propolis is a dark sticky substance made by bees. It is very rich with vitamins and is also antibacterial. Also look for lanolin in a cream for to treat the dry skin around the eyes. Lanolin is the substance in wool which makes it waterproof. It is a very rich moisturizer. Always be extremely gentle when applying any treatment for dry skin around eyes. Some cosmetologists suggest using the ring finger instead of the index finger because it is not as strong, and you are not as likely to rub too hard. Sometimes irritation and dryness around the eyes is caused by an allergy to metals. If that's the case, you might see improvement simply by stopping the use of an eyelash curler and being careful not to touch the eye area except when your hands have just been washed.

Dry Hands:
If you have extrmely dry hands you need a special dry skin treatment. Dry hands can be very uncomfortable. We use our hands for so many things throughout the day that we need them to be in their best condition. Dry skin on the hands can crack and become painful. The best treatment for dry skin on the hands is to cover them with petroleum jelly and put on lightweight cotton gloves. Go to bed this way, leaving the gloves and petroleum jelly on all night.

Other Components of a Treatment Plan:
Any dry skin treatment should have more than one course of action to be the best treatment for dry itchy skin. Just finding the right ointment or lotion for you will probably not be the entire answer. You will also have to change some of your habits. For instance, wool clothing is often a source of itching and irritation. Silk and cotton are breathable natural fibers that rarely cause irritation. You may have to get some new clothes as part of your treatment plan if you like wearing wool a lot. Some of the synthetic materials can be hard on skin, too. Some polyester blends keep the skin from being able to breathe. Cotton underwear for women is much more comfortable in cases of dry itchy skin.

Should You See a Doctor
You may be wondering if you should see a doctor to get the best treatment for dry itchy skin. Sometimes itching is a symptom of a more serious problem. This is particularly likely for older people, or if there doesn't seem to be any reason for the itching. Sometimes dry skin becomes infected, getting red and oozing. If your dry skin gets infected you may need to see a doctor for a prescription for antibiotics as part of the best treatment for dry skin. There are also prescription medicines for dry itchy skin your doctor can prescribe.

Doctors sometimes prescribe steroid cream as a dry skin treatment. If you are using one of these, you should not use it for longer than a week or two at a time. It can make your skin thinner and cause other problems when used for a long time. Pramoxine is the name of an ingredient in anti-itch medicines that are often prescribed or recommended by doctors. Occasionally this medicine causes side effects, and some of them are pretty serious. You should call your doctor immediately if you have swelling of the throat or other areas, hoarseness, or if it makes the itching worse. You may have an allergy or a sensitivity to pramoxine. It's sometimes added to over the counter preparations for poison ivy and hemorrhoids as well as in lotions for itchy dry skin.

Don't give up when searching for the best treatment for dry skin. There are many different products on the market, and one of them is sure to help you.

Keratosis Pilaris is a skin problem that leaves a 'chicken skin' appearance on your skin. This skin problem is often mistaken for acne and the most common thing individuals do is to pick and squeeze on those small and hard bumps. Facial keratosis pilaris can leave scarring, so let's find out which treatments are available to deal with this skin condition.
Keratosis pilaris is an inherited condition of the skin in which the hair follicles become clogged with hair and devitalized cells from the external layer of skin. This occurs as the skin tries to regenerate itself. Usually, dead skin cells would shed off rapidly, but when this genetic condition is present, they get trapped within hair follicles. The follicles get irritated and inflamed generating papules; tiny rough pink bumps on the surface of the skin. They are numerous in the afflicted area and each one is a horny plug, usually rather red but only rarely itchy and never sore.
To define a stretch mark is not an easy task. We find ourselves in this situation because we must be sure to take into account what generates a stretch mark and makes it visible. The main idea we must expose here is the fact that a stretch mark doesn't just appear, it establishes itself in between your skin layers and is articulated by a procedure that is related to the stretching of the skin.
It's very unfortunate that our skin doesn't just bounce back after it has been stretched by pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss. It may instead become decorated by a form scarring scientifically known as striae or more commonly stretch marks. Stretch marks often commence as a reddish or purplish color and then become glossier, appearingshowing streaked in silver or white. Stretch marks occur in the middle layer of the skin which allows it to keep its shape, known as the dermis. When the dermis is constantly stressed and stretched it can be broken down leaving behing stretch marks.
