Whenever I read a story about a new blog that was set up, and the owner started to make big money fast, it makes me mad. It's not hard to do, but it's not that instant!

Some people think that the easy part if getting blog traffic is the actually blogging. And they are correct! As you know, without traffic you are just writing words. No traffic equals no money. If you think about it though, there are a few easy things you can do to make sure that your site is visited, and gets you the blog traffic you need to make a living.

First, a good rule is to blog often. Twice a week is the minimum consideration for a blogger who desires to be successful. This will increase the chances that the major search engines will begin indexing the blog.

Read other people's blogs, make comments, and more: While you're reading your blogs and forums for the day, remember to make comments and give helpful advice. Notice I said "helpful" advice. Only spammers post remarks like "good post," or "I'll give that a try." If you want the blog owner to actually accept your post, add something of value to your comment.

Merely blogging frequently, however, is insufficient for increasing blog traffic. When you post, include a link back to your blog site. This will give the author notice that you have linked in. After a few occasions, the author will often respond by linking back to your blog site.

Try to link to blogs that are complementary to your affiliate marketing niche. You will have better luck this way than trying to link to blogs that are in direct competition to yours. For example, if you have a blog in the dating niche, it might not work out to well to contact others in the same niche; you might be better off visiting a travel niche and finding some posts on "Romantic Getaways" to link to.

One important consideration for increasing blog traffic is to ensure that visitors have a method of subscribing to the blog via a newsletter or Feedburner subscription option. If visitors are merely able to bookmark the blog, or must locate it again on the Internet, they are far less likely to return than if they have subscribed, and the blog is sent directly to their email addresses. Make sure it is always easy for people to return to your site.

And, always have your RSS button displaying on your site. Many people will put your RSS link into their Yahoo! Membership area and read from there. You want to make sure it's easy for them to find this important link. As you increase blog traffic, you also want to increase your subscriber base for future sales.

Consider carefully exactly what you hope to accomplish with your blog. Although it is designed to make money, simply putting up many advertising banners and affiliate links will cause people to tire quickly of reading the blog. These advertisements and links are useful, but only when used in a way that doesn't overpower the reader or the blog.

It is okay to use banners and affiliate links, as long as they don't have the effect of overpowering the blog.

Your goal is not only to increase blog traffic, but also to become known as an expert in your field, so that visitors will want to return to your site to learn from you.
