Educational Stickers and the Seven Tested Classroom Management Tips

In this article, we take a detailed look at each of the seven most important classroom management tools. The relationship between the management techniques and the use of reward stickers is then identified. These techniques are simply activities that a teacher should practice at the beginning of every year or every term.

1. Set goals and a list of expectations for your students

At the beginning of the learning period, set goals that you can live up to. You should then give the learners your expectations that are in line to the set goals. To achieve these goals, the teacher should enforce them and that is where the reward stickers come in. The students are made to understand that they have goals to meet. Every time they make efforts to meet these goals, the teacher gives them a sticker as a sign of accomplishment, and to show that their efforts are appreciated. The stickers can be awarded to individual students or to groups.

2. Be consistent

This is perhaps the most important thing. Some teachers, mostly involuntarily, observe consistency well but others miss out on it totally. It relates in some way to the first point in that once the teacher lets her students know what is expected of them and what they get for meeting the expectations, she should make sure that the promised reward is given. The kind of classroom stickers that the teacher uses for a given task well done, should be the same for all the students or all the groups.

For example, the teacher gives an assignment in the form of a test. Every student that completes the assignment is given a sticker. Every student, then, should get the same sticker regardless of their performance in the assignment.

3. Less talk, more action

Effective teaching is all about engaging the learners actively. Instead of talking throughout the lesson, let the students know what the day's target is. Then, take 15 minutes to give the basics and let them get working. The learners should keep at the back of their minds the fact that there awaits them a reward sticker after successfully reaching the day's target. Show them that they need to earn the stickers by the end of the lesson.

4. Vary the teaching activities and the reward schemes

The greatest advantage of reward stickers is that they can be used in many different ways. That means it is possible to have different teaching and learning activities, in which each accomplishment attracts a different kind of a sticker. To make it more effective, the teacher can use the reward stickers with other forms of small presents. Stickers are easily available and it will not cost much to make stickers for all the activities the children get involved in.

5. Discipline bad behaviour

Make learners understand that bad behaviour attracts undesirable consequences. If the learners get a sticker for every assignment completed, then the teacher can take away a sticker from a student who has not completed the assignment. As the learners work their best to accumulate the stickers, they would strive to ensure that they also do not lose the ones they have gained.

6. Involve parents

Without a doubt, parents play a very important role in influencing their children's performance. If the teacher involves them in the reward scheme, it could have a very positive and significant effect on the learning process of the child.

To do this, all the teacher needs to do is to send praise postcards to them and request them to discuss the progress with their children. The learners then get to see that they are not only appreciated in school, but their parents are also concerned about their success. This motivates them to learn, not only in school but also at their own while at home.

7. Involve all the learners

Educational stickers are not costly. It is possible to make many of them for different purposes. While using the classroom stickers, do not leave out some students. To ensure that all the students feel part of the class, find ways of rewarding them. The idea behind rewarding is to boost the learners' esteem so that they get motivated.
