Energy Conservation Tips That Help Make An Energy Efficient House

 By: Karen Winton
The soaring price of electricity year after year surely gives you high electricity bills. To add to your savings, one thing you can do is to save on power and live in an energy efficient house. How? There are energy conservation tips or electricity saving tips shared below that will make this possible:

In most countries nowadays, there are government programs that teach people how they can reduce energy consumption. Some programs even offer free devices or kits, or even give you money every time you are able to use alternative power sources e.g. solar powered generators, wind generator, and the like. Check with the appropriate government agency what efficiency projects or programs they have which you can join so you'll be able to save on power in your home.

Another step you can take in order to have an energy efficient house is to actually turn off all the lights in your residence if you are not using them. In the morning or in the times of the day with sufficient natural light, it is best to tie up your curtains or adjust your blinds so that light comes seeping into the room and would mean that you do not need to switch on artificial lighting. Included in energy conservation tips is also for you to not only turn off appliances when not in use, but to also unplug them from the electricity sockets. Believe it or not, even when turned off, if the plugs are still in the sockets, a percentage of electricity is still used up.

One of the electricity saving tips that every home owner should do is to check the refrigerator and see if there are any gaps in the seal and the door. Even the tiniest gap can make the motor run harder and that means more electricity will be used up. To save on power, remember as well to place the ref in an area that's away from direct sunlight, and that the refrigerator should be at least 4 inches away from your house's walls so as not to thwart the exhausts from working properly. If the ref's exhausts are actually blocked by 'insufficient spacing' from the walls, then, you're not really living in an energy efficient house.

Line drying your clothes during sunny days, days of Spring, etc,; cleaning your air conditioning filters from time to time; using Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs instead of Incandescent bulbs, etc, are other energy conservation tips or electricity saving tips that will surely pave the way to a significant decrease in your power bills.
