MySpace has grown to become one of the most successful websites over the past few years. There are many reasons for its immense success and growing popularity. Since the launch of its API, which allows developers to release games and applications to the members of the site, MySpace has successfully retained the loyalty of many of its members.

How the API works.

Developers need to familiarize themselves with the API of MySpace, before development work can continue. They can do so by reading documentation that is provided on the MySpace website. Once familiar with the syntax of the framework, developers can start programming games or useful applications, which will eventually be released to the social network. There are many different types of games and applications that can be developed using the API. The possibilities are endless, and it's all up to the imagination and creativity of the developers.

Why developers love the API.

Developers love to work with MySpace API because it gives them the opportunity to tap into the member database of the MySpace social network. The member database consists of millions of existing members, and this means traffic for the developers. When an application or game becomes popular, there is a viral effect in the social community. The viral process works something like this:

A member starts off by investigating an app or a game. You need a registered account before you can install any MySpace app or game. Registration is free, and you can install as many apps and games as you want. Once installed, you can try out the apps and games and if you like it, you can recommend them to friends who are already in your network. You can actually invite them to join you in a game that you are currently playing. And that is how the viral effect is achieved. This cycle carries on perpetually and more and more members will come to learn about the apps and games without the developers having to do any marketing. Obviously, the key here is to create killer apps or games that are so good that members will immediately tell others about them. Through word of mouth, a killer app or game has the potential to reach millions of members.

Mafia Wars.

Mafia Wars is an example of a wildly successful game on MySpace. You start off with a character, and you are the leader of a family. Bit by bit, you build up your family’s defense and attack statistics. You do this by fighting with other families in the game. As you fight, the health level becomes lower and lower. When the character runs out of health, it dies, and you must now let it recover its health points or visit the virtual hospital. To level up, you can also use your energy points to perform jobs. The more jobs you perform, the more experience points and money you earn. As your character gets stronger, you get more powerful in the game.

Due to the addictive nature of this game, it has managed to capture the hearts of many MySpace members. Perhaps it’s time to join them in the fun and exciting game of Mafia Wars.

The user will also be able to post a comment. It also changes how that Like is communicated to contacts. Previously, only a link to the story would appear in the recent activity.
