The spring is a great time to get out into your garden and check your garden fencing. A really popular form of fencing that provides privacy is the traditional fence panel and it is a cheap and cost affective fencing solution.

When looking to erect new garden fencing or replace your existing fencing you need to consider the possibility of your fence blowing over or failing prematurely. To minimise this possibility I would recommend that you strengthen your fencing panels and fence posts, by using concrete posts in place of timber posts.

When you fit fencing panels between slotted concrete fence posts, it moves the traditional fence panel to another level of reliability in garden fencing. When using slotted concrete posts they will last for many many years without deterioration, whereas timber fencing posts have a shorter life expectancy.

Concrete fence posts have yet another benefit because the fence panels that fit between the concrete fence posts are not fixed with nails or screws to the fence post. This means that if the existing fence panel becomes damaged or the fence panels deteriorate over time, a replacement fence panel can be lowered into the space between the concrete fence posts without any specialist tools or knowledge. In theory with the concrete fence posts you therefore have a very long lasting lap panel fence.

Concrete gravel boards - If you choose to add this option, these sit beneath the fence panels and keep the garden fence panels from touching the ground and thus give the fence panel a longer life expectancy. The concrete gravel board is also useful if there is a change of ground level and if soil retention is required. These boards come in 2 sizes, 150mm and 300mm deep.

How much might all this cost? Well it needn't cost you the earth. Concrete fence posts are very cost effective when set against the timber fence post equivalents, particularly when you take into account all the aforementioned advantages that concrete fence posts offer you, I would say they are a gem of a buy when considering new fencing and they will produce a garden fencing to be proud of.

If you want any further information visit a local stockist or take one last tip from me. I am aware that AVS Fencing Supplies currently have a special spring 2009 on line promotion on all the fencing materials mentioned in this article.

The term outdoor lights means different things to different people. If you float the term at a builders convention, most will tell you that they hang a light by the front door, one by the back door, and one under the carport if one is built on the home. They will also tell you the reason for the lights on the outside of a home is because they are required by code.
