HID lights are a pretty new technology, particularly in the US marketplace. They use a much more efficient light lightbulb than traditional lights. In this article I will talk about a short chronicle of these vehicle lights and a few other interesting facts and misconceptions about them. I may also take a look at a few of the advantages of utilising HID automotive lights.

HID or High Intensity Discharge headlights were first released by BMW in 1991 in their BMW 7 series. HID lights rapidly became the preferred lights used in European and Japanese autos but this change has been much less quick in the United States. In 1996, Lincoln was the pioneering US car maker to utilize HID headlights which they utilized in their Lincoln Mark VIII autos.

So what exactly is HID light? HID light bulbs use arc lamp technology. Arc lamp technology employs high voltage electrical energy (up to 15,000 volts!) to produce an arc between 2 electrodes in a gas (Xenon) substrate contained inside the lightbulb. This technology has been used for many years in industrial light applications. In contrast, conventional headlights pass electricity through a thin tungsten wire filament.

There are some everyday misconceptions connected with HID lights and vehicle lights. Alot of people believe that the higher the color temperature (indicated by 'K' or known as the Kelvin Temperature Chart), the brighter the lightbulb. However, this isn't true. XD7, a HID headlight manufacturer, is renowned for its range in color temperatures. Their range goes from 4000K all the way up to 12000K. As you will see, the temperature does not affect the brightness. Instead the coloring is what is affected by the temperature.

For Instance, XD7 suggests that you go with a 6000K HID headlight if you desire a natural looking light. Otherwise, if you want white with hints of yellow, then you will want the 5000K HID light or if you want white with hints of blue, you willwant the 8000K HID headlight. In addition to yellow and blue you can get white with touches of green with the 10000K HID headlight or a bluish purple light with the 12000K HID headlight.

In addition to the misunderstandings about the color of the lights, some people believe that HID automotive lights are not as durable as traditional lights. However, this is false. In reality, HID car lights are often more resilient and can be used for off-road purposes unlike numerous filament lights.

There are several rewards to utilising HID lights over conventional car lights. First off, HID headlights will oftentimes last up to 10 times longer than traditional headlights. Also, as I already mentioned HID lights are often times more durable than filament headlights.

However, perhaps the most important thing for many individuals is the distance you are able to see with HID lights. This improvement in sight is often rather substantial and may be the reason a potential auto incident is avoided. Once you use HID lights you will not ever want to utilize traditional lights again.
