So you see that cool rack of hats at the local big-box retailer and they seem so inviting. These racks normally have bright, multicolored hats and a variety of styles and there always seems to be a mirror handy for you to try them on.

A marketing company interested in the growth of head lice infestations couldn't come up with a more effective way to spread these bloodsucking parasites. While all those hats may look inviting the fact is that you don't know who has tried them on before you. Though the chances of actually contracting pediculosis or a case of head louse from a hat at a store is small, it's a risk nonetheless.

Headlice can live for several days on an inanimate object like a hat, a scarf or a hair brush. This means that if a person with a lice infestation has tried on those hats, the chance of coming down with lice by modeling those same hats is very great.

Symptoms of Head Lice Infestation

* A tickling sensation on your scalp
* A general feeling that your hair may be moving ever so slightly
* Itching caused by the lice bites so they can get your blood for food

Diagnosis of Headlice infestation

Although small, headlice are easily detected by looking closely through the hair close to the scalp. Lice can often be mistaken for dandruff but they typically do not brush away or flake off. Lice are about the size of a half a grain of rice and are whitish gray in color.

Another thing to look for are nits, which are lice eggs. These will be located very close to the scalp and will look like bumps on individual hair follicles. It's our very difficult to remove prior to treatment.

The best place to check for an infestation is in the hair right behind the ear and at the neckline. Simply use a pencil or other wooden instrument to move the hair against the natural lay. This bends the hair making it easier to see the presence of any lice.

The common image for trauma and traumatic experiences usually encompasses the negative extremes of life. Rape, childhood abuse, war, mass destruction, and natural disasters are all seen as the causes of trauma. They are valid causes, to be sure, but they are not the only reasons. Certainly, they are the ones that have cast the greatest shadow over the collective popular consciousness, with things like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) becoming more and more common knowledge.
It is normal for children to sense fear about certain events or circumstances like being in a school play, passing a growling dog, or sleeping in the dark. But more often than not, these fears are exaggerated and even irrational. Some children can develop a very serious irrational fear that can be clinically considered as phobia. In medical terms, phobia refers to a type of anxiety disorder. It is a strong, irrational fear of something that poses little or no apparent danger. This is form of fear does not go away as easily as the more common types of fear like seeing a monster in a horror movie. If a child has a phobia, his or her sense of security and well-being is affected.
Life without emotions is like an empty canvass. Our life should have some color once in a while, or else life would be completely dull and boring. Emotions are so important in daily life. For that reason, human emotions have been the object of research and study for thousands of years. What has changed over the years has been the general approach to this investigation. For many years, researchers in psychology focused on what seemed to be rational and what could be directly observed through physiology. Hence, emotion was neglected as it was seen as more part of mind than body.
Relationships with other people can often play the role of "bread and butter" in a person's life. As social creatures, human beings are drawn to one another for a variety of biological and psychological reasons. It is an integral component of a person's psychological development and emotional stability. However, the benefits are not entirely absolute. It is possible for people with extreme social misgivings, such as loners and hermits, to live without too much damage to their mental health. The isolation gets to you after a while, but there's nothing really too fractured up there.
Sleep is an integral component of human existence, such that without sleep, you eventually die. There isn't a whole lot that people understand about how sleep works, or how it manages to do what it does for the body. Humans simply have an instinctive understanding that sleep is an important part of their lives and it just isn't a good idea to cut down on it so much. However, trouble getting enough sleep is a problem that is becoming increasingly common in the modern world, as shown by the statistics of how many people are buying sleeping pills. This is, of course, far from being a recent problem.
