Number 5: Be sure to check that your gas cap is secure and has a good seal. You can lose up to a gallon per fill up of gas when you have a loose fitting gas cap.

Number 6: Check your air filter and make sure it is clean with each oil change. When your air filter is clogged it can dampen the fuel efficiency of the engine.

Number 7: Take you car to your local mechanic and get him or her to check your oxygen sensors. When you have a bad oxygen sensor it can send more gas than needed to the engine.

Many people have seen great improvement with their car's fuel economy just implementing a few of these tips. Be sure to take these into consideration the next time you step into your car and realize you need more gas. There are other ways to improve gas mileage but these are some of the best. It only takes a moment to perform some of these ideas but they can save you a nice amount of money in the long run. If you think about it, it sure beats spending a lot of money on a hybrid.
