Holidays in Torquay

How many of us know, or think we know, about a place that is so close we can almost touch it? It may be an area that you hear about often but have never been there yourself. It is time to explore and really see the areas around the UK.

One lovely town close by, is Torquay. Torquay is part of Devon and only sixteen miles from Exeter. It is a booming town with a population of a whopping 62, 963! Wow! It is now the third largest settlement in Devon. Those 62, 963 people are only the residents of Torquay. You would be surprised that the town grows in population to around 200,000 in the summer months. So why all of the hype?

Why do people visit Torquay. There are numerous reasons to make Torquay your holiday spot.

One reason to choose Torquay is its location. This town is set on a magnificent piece of land. It sits on the South Devon coastline and is an extremely popular holiday resort town.

Torquay Beach

Since it is a resort town, the beach is a primary form of entertainment. This has been an attraction since at least the Victorian era. During that time the beaches at Torquay had bathing huts that were moved down to the beach. If you were so lucky to be a somebody, you were able to stay in a villa overlooking the ocean. It was in this era that Torquay claimed its reputation as a top resort town.

However, today’s Torquay has become quite modernized and is very "with the times".
If you love to be outside, there are tons of opportunities for you here! There is about 22 miles of walking areas in Torquay. There are cliff walks, promenades, coves, beaches, just to name a few.

Torquay also offers a variety of water sports. If you love to surf, swim, sail or dive, this is the place to be!

Not only is Torquay full of fun, it is also full of beauty. The beaches offer stunning views of the beautiful clear blue sea. You can see the bay, the English Channel and much more.

Amenities

Relaxation is what brings some to Torquay. There are numerous hotels to choose from and the beach seems endless.

Along with Torquay’s attractions are the dining opportunities. The town has a large number of restaurants. Torquay also has a variety of pubs, cafes bistros and restaurants that offer endless culinary choices. The food in Torquay is among the best in Devon.

24 Hour Fun

Torquay also has a great night life. Many of the restaurants are combined with bars and nightclubs. These clubs have great music featured in a vibrant setting. The party does not even have to end. Many places are open 24 hours a day so you never have to stop.

In Torquay you are sure to find something you enjoy doing. It may be relaxing on the beach, staying up all night, golfing, biking or other activities. The opportunities are endless to making your vacation truly wonderful. The choice is yours in Torquay.
