Hypnotherapy is a fast growing method to modify or change behavior. People are using hypnosis for everything from weight loss and pain management to boosting self confidence and to stop smoking. Many people visit a qualified hypnotherapist to take advantage of the therapy, while others take advantage of self-hypnosis through the plethora of self-help resources available. While some people think that hypnosis is nothing but hype, if you want to change or modify your behavior or thoughts on a certain subject you may want to give hypnosis a try.

How Hypnosis Works

There are many different reasons hypnosis works. Our minds are very open to suggestions at all times and hypnosis creates a way for us to program ourselves with positive, empowering and uplifting information that can change our lives in powerful ways. There is no secret to hypnosis.

Here Are a Few Techniques Hypnosis Employs:

1) Relaxation: Most people are most receptive while sleeping or extremely relaxed. The hypnotherapist always asks if you are comfortable and undisturbed. If you use CD’s it is okay to fall asleep; our minds absorb more when we are sleeping.

2) Repetition: The more an idea is repeated, the more likely it will be accepted. Think about a TV commercial and how you are more likely to accept a new idea or product when you have seen a commercial fifty or sixty times over a course of several days.

3) Guided Imagery and Visualization: Everything begins in the mind and hypnosis finds a way to implant your mind with images you want, as opposed to the images you currently hold due to repeated patterns. For instance, you must imagine yourself as a non-smoker or a thinner person, before you can start acting in the ways that will bring this into reality.

4) Suggestions: Hypnosis is a way to suggest new ideas into the mind.

Seeing a Hypnotherapist

If you are seeking to try a hypnotherapist, you should make sure they have professional qualifications. There are many different schools and trainings for hypnotherapy and doing your homework in this area will really pay off in the long run. Ask questions. Find out how much they charge, what to expect when you are hypnotized, how long each session will last, how many sessions you will you need and how long the therapist has been in practice. Try to choose a hypnotherapist with a good reputation who has been in practice for a while. Shop around. Most importantly, you will want to have a feeling of trust between yourself and your hypnotherapist. Does this person make you feel at ease? Do you feel safe with him? Do you like his personality and feel that you can trust him with your mind?

Self-Hypnosis: Tapes, CD’s and MP3’s

While seeing a hypnotherapist is a great idea, it is cheaper and more accessible to try hypnotizing yourself. Hypnosis can be self-administered by using online downloads, MP3’s, tapes, or CD’s. Whether you are looking to lose weight, stop smoking, gain social confidence, or curb anxiety, there are a wide variety of resources and products on the market. Hypnosis products can be tried at night upon going to bed. They can also be a great way to wake up in the morning to start your day on a positive note. For the price of one hypnotherapy session, you can buy several different self-hypnosis products to start changing your own mind right away on a host of different subjects. Never listen to hypnosis CD’s while driving your car.
