Motor homes and caravans are a novel way to travel around the country. There is no need to book hotels or look for restaurants that serve decent food; everything can be done on board your mobile home. Motor homes are usually associated with America, campers and caravans on the other hand are linked to Australia, Europe and the UK, both ways provide a great way to discover a country.

For those unsure of the difference between a motor home and a caravan, basically motor homes are self-manoeuvred automobiles. Motor homes are designed for those who intend to be on the road frequently or for an extended period of time. Caravans on the other hand are towed by another vehicle, generally the family car. They both include similar features, such as living and sleeping areas, a small kitchenette and some even have showers and a toilet on board.

If you are interested in buying a caravan or motor home you will find a big market for these kinds of vehicles and making a decision can be very difficult. Whether you decide to buy a luxury new model with all the latest features or a basic second-hand model will depend on your budget and requirements. Motor homes and caravans are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and value for money. All over the USA, Europe, Australia and the UK are camp sites offering facilities for campers.

Whether it is a second-hand or a luxury model, caravans will not come cheap. It will need to be serviced regularly so as to ensure it remains in a good condition for many years to come. If you do buy second-hand then always have a reputable garage check the vehicle out beforehand and test drive it yourself.

Travelling in caravans and motor homes will give you a lot of freedom. You will not need to worry about where you are going to sleep, have to depend upon public transport or make continuous toilet and refreshment stops. You will be in control of the timetable and no concerns over where to sleep. If you develop a taste for a particular area, then you can stay there for as long as you like. Motor homes are now also gaining popularity with young families and couples.

If you are not already a caravan enthusiast then take some time to do your research before making your decision. Many models are available and you have to decide which one will fit your requirements best. Once you have a budget to go by and know your basic requirements, consider the reason you want to buy a caravan. Consider the features and facilities you want, list your basic requirements and budget and go from there.

Your reason for buying a caravan will be the key factor. What comforts are necessary, how much space you require, if you are travelling with a family or intend to be away for an extended period of time. Be aware that the bigger the motor home or caravan, the more difficult it will be to drive or tow and also the more expensive gas will be. These are important aspects you must calculate before purchasing your dream mobile home.

Your budget is going to be the deciding factor on which model you will ultimately choose. Consider carefully which facilities are necessary for you and your family whilst away from home. Is it just you and your partner who will be using the vehicle or are you planning on a whole family coming along? The sleeping arrangements will of course be an important factor. For a couple a microwave might be just enough but a conventional oven might be a better for a family since it has more cooking options. Many motor homes come equipped with a shower and WC, but this isn’t always the case with a caravan. You might see it a priority and have to pay extra for the convenience, if you are considering a larger model and if you are planning on stopping over most nights at caravan parks it might not be worth the extra cost.

Make yourself a list of requirements and do some research before committing yourself to buying a caravan or motor home. Go online and check out new and used caravans and motor homes and start to plan your first trip.
