You pride yourself on being organized, and you've planned this move down to the letter. Now you're checking and cross-checking your lists to ensure nothing is forgotten. With virtually dozens of things to remember, even the most fastidious planner can forget things. Here is a list of some of the most common items people are likely to forget when caught up in the chaos of a move.

Medical Records: Items such as dental, medical, immunization information and veterinary records are much easier to obtain before you move, but most often forgotten. Be sure to allow plenty of time when you request this information as it can take awhile to receive it. If you have a standing prescription with a pharmacy, they can transfer the records to a new location. If you don't know who you'll be dealing with, get the contact information of your existing pharmacy and pass it on when you find a new one.

School Records: Original school records will be required when registering your children in their new schools. In some cases, the old school will forward the records directly to the new one. Ensure you have your own educational records to include in your resume when you begin job hunting in the new town.

Old Contact Information: Don't forget to bring your old phone book with you. It may be a handy reference when looking up old friends and business contacts.

Items to be Picked Up or Dropped Off: It's easy to overlook that suit dropped off at the dry cleaners last week, or the video rental or library book that never got returned.

Forwarding Address: Leave your new address with the post office, friends, relatives and previous employer. Don't forget your address book; you'll be glad you did when it comes time to send out Christmas cards.

Cleaning Supplies: Hang onto anything you'll need for last minute cleaning before you leave, or even better, hire a cleaner to do a final sweep of the house.

Garage-Door Opener: More times than enough, the remote for the automatic garage door opener also makes the trip to the new home. Be sure to leave it behind where the new owners will notice it.

Pets: Caught up in the whirlwind of the move, owners often forget to make travel plans well enough in advance for their pets. In addition there are usually strict requirements about the weight of the pet and the type of crate used for transport.

Safe-Deposit Boxes: Make a note to empty your safe-deposit box and hand in the key. At the same time, establish an account in your new town to ensure there are no issues accessing your funds.

Keys: Round up all your house keys, including those given to friends or neighbors and the one hidden under the porch. Don't forget keys for outbuildings, sheds, or the lawn tractor you included in the sale. Label each key to make it easy on the new owners. At the same time, ensure your breaker box is labeled, and leave behind contact information for any maintenance trades you may have used on a regular basis.
