Keep Things Organized

When I mention business card printing, most people are immediately going to think about the business cards they’re getting done.

I bet each time you go to a conference or seminar you go fully stocked with business cards, don’t you? The goal is, of course, to hand out those cards to as many people as you can. But at the same time you’re going to be receiving plenty of business cards as well.

The point of events like those are to help you network and develop leads, but those leads go beyond just the ones you can get for sales. You’re also going to be developing leads for buying products yourself. Maybe you’ll come across a wholesaler who can give you a better price than what you’ve been getting, or find someone who can help you distribute your goods for less money.

You need to consider how you organize the business cards you get from other people just as much as you think about how you’ll hand your cards out to other people.

Too often people don’t take the needed steps to really get their business cards organized, which means they might not stumble across the ones they could really use until long after they no longer need them. Do you want other people to do this with your cards?

I’m guessing you probably have a rolodex or a folder you can put your different business cards in to, but why not go a little more high-tech as well?

The best systems I’ve seen for organizing business cards is a duel process of both filing them away physically, and getting an electronic copy of them as well. Set up a database covering all of the business cards you have and who you got them from - might even want to put where you got them as well.

I’ve seen some people scan an image of the business card into your computer as well, though whether or not you feel like going to that extreme is up to you.

This serves multiple functions. The first is that you get easier access to your information without having to sort through a lot of actual business cards. The second is that by saying where you got the card, you now can easily remember the best places to get new cards from different potential partnerships. If you have an event coming up take a look in your files to see if you’ve been to a similar one, and what kinds of leads you developed.

Preparation is the key to success, after all, and the better organized you are the more prepared you’ll be for any situation. Given how many people are getting business card printing done, that leads to a lot of business cards. Why keeping using only a physical method for organizing them when you can take advantage of the technology today to make things easier on yourself?
