There are worse things that can happen to a person than a road traffic accident. This is a wildly inaccurate statement, made by someone who perceives road traffic accidents as the mere scraping of a bumper. Some road traffic accidents are horrific, leaving children bereft of parents and witness to terrifying scenes. Those that survive road traffic accidents can make compensation claims. This however, can be jeopardised by hit and run drivers and those without insurance.

Personal injury compensation is not always a lost cause in hit and run cases, as the police are often able to trace the driver. As long as the driver has an insurance policy then the victim can observe the usual channels in order to make a claim. However, if the traced driver does not have insurance then the case is likely to be referred to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, or MIB. The MIB have an uninsured drivers' scheme, designed to help those involved in such cases as aforementioned. This service is cost free.

The MIB was set up for the purpose of helping drivers, who find themselves in circumstances whereby they have been affected by the actions of negligent motorists. Even though the MIB can handle a case in its entirety, this often takes a great deal of time. People usually combine the services of the MIB with those of a no-win-no-fee solicitor.

In order for a claimant to be successful, plenty of evidence needs to be provided. There are various types of evidence, with a helpful one being the statements of eyewitnesses. If there are any then it is important to take their names and address, in order for them to be contacted in relation to the incident.

Contacting the police it is not always warranted. Indeed if the highway has not become obstructed and nobody is seriously injured, the police will not attend the scene of an incident. However, if the incident involves a hit and run, an uninsured driver, or a person in a stolen vehicle, then the police do need to be informed, and may well attend the scene of the incident, which then becomes a crime.
