Does your skin feel dry and itchy every time you take a bath or a shower? Does your skin still feel oily no matter how often you wash? Does your skin constantly seem irritated and flaky after a bath or shower? Then you may simply be allergic to some of the many chemicals that are put in commercially made soap today.

For a number of years I personally had a great deal of problems with dry, itchy skin that seemed to almost come off in a fine white powder. No matter what I did, no matter what soap I tried, I always seemed to feel uncomfortable even after taking a hot, soapy shower. The doctors finally said it was due to my allergies but that there was little I could do about it. I have taken shots for my grass and tree pollen allergies but there was little they said they could do for my dry, itchy skin. They suggested I use some creams after a shower but that only made me feel grubby. I only felt like taking another shower! Then a local lady who made soap suggested I try a few different types of soaps she was making for her own problems. And what do you know, the soap made from goat's milk worked for me!

Commercial soap can be very irritating and actually dry out the skin for many people who are allergic to the ingredients they use. For many people who have sensitive skin allergies, the perfumes or scent ingredients that they use in the commercial soaps can also be very irritating and harsh. Handmade soaps will usually contain up to 20% glycerin in their makeup. Glycerin is a natural humectant, a non-oily ingredient that actually attracts moisture from the atmosphere to your skin and actually retards evaporation. The commercial soaps you buy in the store are not actually soap, but are actually detergent bars made with detergents, synthetic ingredients, synthetic perfumes, foaming agents and a whole list of chemicals added. Rarely, if ever, do commercial soaps ever contained glycerin. The glycerin is actually siphoned and sold to cosmetic companies! That glycerin is then actually sold to you at another counter as a moisturizer! So the commercial soap dries out your skin, you then use a moisturizer to offset the soap, then you wash again with the commercial soap and dry out your skin. It's a never-ending cycle and one that can cost you a lot of money along with a lot of skin irritation that you would pay anything to get rid of! And of course, they have the moisturizers ready for you to buy to solve the problem and take your money!

Handcrafted soap is usually made from vegetable oils, milks, botanicals, mineral clays and pure plant essential oils though actually help you to maintain the proper skin balance. They can do a lot to clear up dry and irritating skin problems. In my case, they even eliminated them completely. Learning how to make your own homemade soap is not that difficult. In the case of the goat soap, I found out that making soap was a lot easier than I thought. All I had to do was follow instructions and a recipe my friend gave me and then made a great moisturizing goat soap that has worked very well for me. You can probably find a number of different recipes for homemade soap at your local library or on line if necessary. There are even a number of homemade soap books available that can help you to get started very easily.

But even if you don't want to make your own soap, I highly advise you to find someone who makes homemade soap and try it out for yourself. You can even find handmade soaps that are perfumed with essential oils such as lavender, clary sage, citrus or rose that will look and feel luxurious and will be a delight to your skin! Give it a try - you won't be sorry!
