If your moving to British Columbia, Congratulations! The lower mainland and greater Vancouver area is one of the most beautiful places here in BC. Follow these steps and you should be a packing expert.

Packing for Your Move

Packing is about materials. Get sturdy boxes that are good for packing. Include materials like bubble wrap, tape, blankets. If you’d like an organized approach at packing then we suggest starting from one room and working out words. Pack up your room into boxes with clearly written labels. Don’t over pack the boxes and make them too heavy for yourself, unless you’ve hired helpful movers. Fragile materials should be clearly labelled. Consider the use of a pillow with these fragile items. Put your tooth brushes, prescription drugs, clothing and toilet paper in a backpack and make it the first thing that goes into your new home.

How to Save Money on Your Move

People often mistake how many things they really have. Start early and move quickly so that it doesn’t run into delays. Delays may be ok with your schedule but if movers have to take 3 extra hours moving your boxes, you’ll be picking up the bill. You can order your moving supplies online to cut out the middle man. Call your friends if you need moving supplies or go for a drive to your local business for extra boxes. Renting your own truck will help you save on the gas bill. It all depends on if you want to make your move a shorter process or a longer process. If you ok with your move taking a little longer, then call your friends. If you would like it done quickly then you should consider a moving company and your friends.

How to Safely Move Your Pets

It’s a lot of work to move your family let alone your pets! Pets can complicate your move significantly. Make the move easy on your pet and feed it prior to the move. If you’re moving by flight then make sure the medical records are up to date as Customs will require paper work. Change your pet’s ID to your cell phone just in case the cargo get’s lost. For an additional 75 dollar charge I do believe they have special compartments for your pet. It could be compared to pet first class. It’s something to consider if you believe your pet should travel in comfort.

How to Make Your Move Easy for the Kids

Communication is the biggest thing when it comes to a move with children. It’s good to notify your child months in advance so they can tell their friends. That way a move isn’t a devastating and tragic moment when your child loses their best friend. Visit the future school and schedule times to meet with the principle. Make sure the records from the last school are sent over to the new one. Lastly, consider having a moving party for your child with friends and family.

Moving anywhere in British Columbia is a fantastic adventure and we recommend checking out any of the following cities: Vancouver, Burnaby, Langley, Coquitlam, Richmond, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. They are all very clean and have access to plenty of friendly people and interesting activities.
