When we speak of pores we are talking about the tiny holes on the skins surface, that are a means for the oil glands to lubricate and protect the skin. During puberty you oil glands start producing more oil that needs to be pushed through the oil glands and thus your pores increase in size. They actually stay enlarged until about menopause when they shrink into a more unnoticeable size.

The problem with these enlarged pores is that when you don't treat them right they become clogged and enlarged and the problem worsens. Coupled with dry skin, pores can look worse than they actually are unless you treat them properly. They may become a problem again later in life when skin loses its elasticity and suppleness. You're most likely to notice enlarged pores around your nose, for the reason that area has more oil glands per square inch than any other part of your body. However it's still possible to minimise and improve their appearance.

Treating Enlarged Pores

It is very important to keep your face clean, and although its difficult resist the urge to pick at your face and the enlarged pores and blemishes as this will only irritate them and make them worse. Most products on the market work by shrinking pores by tightening the surrounding skin.

Depending on the elements of the product and the ingredients, the effects can last for a few hours or a few days. Pick the right skin pore minimizing cream. After washing your face, smooth a lotion containing alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) over your skin to peel away old skin cells that build up around your pores. The AHAs are fruit and milk acids that encourage older cells to peel off, leaving younger, smoother skin underneath.

Recommended is an alpha hydroxyl acid product that is 10 percent glycolic acid. Several other suggested cream products and treatments include facials, pore strips, trentinoin, microdermabrasion alpha and beta acids. To improve the appearance of your enlarged pores you could also try natural alternatives such as papaya and flaxseed oil.

By eating a diet high in vitamins, minerals and Omega 3 oil your skin will see the benefits. To keep skin and bodies healthy up to 8 glasses of water is recommended and will flush the body of toxins. Makeup tricks are also a fantastic idea to minimise the appearance of enlarged pores. Try not applying foundation to any areas where pores are enlarged. Foundation just seems to magnify their look. You could try using a foundation with a matte finish instead of a shiny one.

Blotting paper in areas where pores appear larger can be utilised. A smooth and more matter surface results due to the powder diffusing the pores look. So don't despair if you have are suffering from enlarged and ugly pores, there are many things you can try to try to minimise or fix the problem. But finding the right treatment for large pores with the right holistic treatment is highly recommended along with looking after your health.

Acne is caused when sebaceous glands within the hair follicles (pores) of the skin become clogged, because secretion appears faster than the oil and skin cells can evacuate the follicle. The plug causes the follicle to bulge (forming whiteheads), and the top of the plug may darken (forming blackheads). If the plug causes the wall of the follicle to rupture, the oil, devitalized skin cells, and bacteria found normally on the surface of the skin can invade the skin and form small infected areas called pustules (also called pimples or "zits").
