The new training for Foster carers

The Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care have been developed by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) who is responsible for ensuring that people working with children, young people and their families have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice.

The Standards have been designed to support Foster Carers from approval through the first two years of service. They give Fostering providers a framework for training and professional development which will mean Foster Carers get the best possible training, information and knowledge to make a difference to the lives of fostered children.

There are seven Standards which cover the main areas of the foster care role and set out what Foster Carers should know, understand and be able to do:

Standard 1: understand the principles and values essential for fostering children and young people.
Standard 2: understand your role as a Foster Carer.
Standard 3: understand health and safety, and healthy caring.
Standard 4: know how to communicate effectively.
Standard 5: understand the development of children and young people.
Standard 6: safeguard children and young people (keep them safe from harm).
Standard 7: develop yourself.

The Standards are designed to recognise the position of Foster Carers who provide a unique service fostering children in their own homes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Standards support and take Foster Carers through their pre-approval and first year of fostering. They provide a level standard to ensure all Foster Carers receive relevant induction training, support and continuing professional development accross the fostering spectrum. The Standards should be used with all new Foster Carers and by 2011, with all Foster Carers.

All you need to have a successful back yard camp out are a few kids, some tents, an open pit for roasting marshmallows, junk food, a little imagination and a few supervising adults! Not to mention, a back yard. I started planning summer camp outs when one year, I decided I didn't want a house full of kids over for my son's birthday. I wasn't in the mood to clean up that mess. So, I borrowed a few tents from the neighbors, told all his buddies to bring warm pajamas and their sleeping bags, and to be prepared for an all-nighter!
A conservatory typically is a room or set of rooms built into the side of a house that allows the occupants to enjoy the outdoors without being exposed to bad weather, uncomfortable temperatures, or insects. A conservatory almost always has big windows to bring sunlight and viewscapes into the space. In some cases, conservatories are made almost entirely of glass, with strong but minimalist structural support. Frequently a conservatory functions as a place where tender plants that would not survive outdoors can be cultivated.

The family is the smallest unit in a community. It is also the child's first school for learning values like sharing, caring and compassion. The family provides a secure setting where citizens of the future are molded to become responsible members of the community.
There is a growing need to find people who have the commitment, qualities and who are prepared to accept the risks involved of looking after other people's vulnerable children.
A selection of hot water extractors are being marketed that range from the large or small canister types with hose and nozzle to those that look more like an upright vacuum cleaner. The basic operation of the steam cleaner vacuum involves spraying a mixture of warm water and detergent into the carpet, washing the fibers and then extracting the solution mixture back out. There are some models that include rotating or revolving brushes that will agitate the carpet for better cleaning.
