Orthorexic people are obsessed or perfectionist as they think about food and diet. They think too much about the food and food matters and majority of them read magazines on food and browse websites and read blogs about food and food related matters.

Mostly orthorexics spend more than half of their leisure time in obsessing about food. They think that they are very well aware about all the issues and matters related to food and health. They usually feel pride and disdainful towards people who don't have much knowledge in this regard.

Is Healthy Diet not a Good Thing?

Yes, of course healthy diet is always a good for your health. You have to be aware of the importance of healthy diet in your life. But orthorexics think beyond that required level. They take thing far from the reality. They usually defend their point by saying; they are raising voice about unhealthy diet. But this is not actually the case. There seems to be some psychological disturbance in orthorexics which needs to be considered deeply.

Secretive behavior, an emotional relationship with food and a pattern of punishment related to food are symptoms that are common in anorexia and bulimia and orthorexia nervosa. Orthorexia nervosa if not treated early, it can lead to other severe disorders as well. Orthorexics should be given a proper support to re-assess and reconsider their attitude and behavior towards the food and food matters that will help them to get back on normal track and look at things normally instead of passionately. It is not bad to care about your diet and health but extreme involvement can sometimes cause it to become obsession, which is a big threat to healthy life.
