Children analyze a situation in a typical way. In case they witness elder’s quarrelling or using a particular gesture then they immediately try to imitate the same. They also conceptualize that this is the way to go about a situation. It is amazing to notice their mannerisms and attitude as kids these days are highly influenced by situations. Though it is very difficult to control or restrict these viewings, as a parent the only solution to these negative influences is correcting them during such displays.

Many of us face the situation that our obedient child has suddenly become stubborn. This could be an attention seeking behavior and the minute we make time for the child the situation is not repeated. The truth is that all of us are pressed for time and going through a practical way is not an ideal situation. In case our toddler is howling about viewing a particular television channel it would be wrong to heed to an outburst. Instead we can offer them an alternative or else praise the work he has done in the school scrap book.

Constant correcting makes children try out negative alternatives. In a situation where we are constantly being a bad cop, the child develops a more rigid tendency. It is better to realize that kids are individuals too and feel threatened when we nag them. Sometimes certain acts are not acceptable and this should be communicated well to the child. In case the child wants to eat the cookie without washing her hands then tell them mildly that this is a bad thing to do. Explain to them about germs-tummy ache-medicines and they will imbibe the logic.

When the situation is totally out of hand and when tantrums or yelling has become a daily routine, then it is better to stop offering logical solutions. For a couple of days, let the child continue his acts and take charge of the situation very calmly. Children are very sensitive and will be surprised if you are not reacting. This is the best time to be friends with them and then gently put the bad behavior in a story form. Parenting stubborn children is a phase all of us go through and patience is the only way to deal with it.
