Pets and Landscaping

If you are a pet lover and have got some of your own, landscaping a garden while having them around can seem like a problem. You already know how your friend suffers by just having one dog around and having large holes dug daily in her garden. She does not enjoy it and it sure is no sight to see if her house looks beautiful but the garden a total mess.

But what if you love your pet so much that you wouldn't be able to live without it? Does it mean that landscaping will not work with your kind of lifestyle? The answer to it is a big no. Although a majority would say that pets and landscaping do not go together, there are always different methods to make it work. Whatever the outcome, it should be a win-win situation for both. Let's look at how this can be achieved.

Your basic idea for a beautifully landscaped garden would be to include a pond or pool, a kids play area for your children, a nice walkway and a beautiful fence surrounding everything. The catch here is to make sure you do not have a gravel walkway. Your pet dog has such soft paws that walking on a gravel surface could harm it and become worse especially during summer. You obviously wouldn't want your poor dog to suffer as a result of this. This is why there is the special substance called mulch. You could cover up this area with mulch obtained from shredded barks and cover it up. Your dog can also use a particular portion of it as its potty area.

If you intend on having a doghouse, make sure you have it somewhere close to your home or the garage. Thieves or any other intruder should beware the moment they lay their eyes on this. The doghouse must be protected with a proper fence and also must be covered to protect it from too much sunlight, wind or rain.

Sometimes no matter how hard you train your pet to be more disciplined, you'll always see large holes similar to the ones in your friends' garden. Being flexible in such cases is very important. However there can be times when you exceed your limit of being patient. What could be the remedy for this?

Thanks to technological advances in the world we live in, today homeowners can settle for synthetic grass for their garden instead of planting the real thing. Having real grass could mean that the moment your pet decides to drop some waste on it, the end result would be huge patches of yellow grass or even muddy spots everywhere. With synthetic grass, you can stay worry-free because this requires low maintenance and your pet would definitely love it. The soft touch of this artificial grass will have your pet rolling on it in no time. There are many problems faced by homeowners who have pets. Keeping a lawn as green and beautiful as possible doesn't seem to become a reality with most pets. With synthetic grass on your lawn, the answer could be really simple.

The only disadvantage here is that all synthetic grass types are not alike. There can be some that are dog friendly and some that are not. But since many are durable and last for almost 10 years or more, it could be your perfect choice for landscaping even while having pets.
