 By: Tauqeer Hassan
When a woman conceives for the first time in her life, it is certainly a feeling that cannot be expressed with words. However, if this is your second or third baby, the excitement level may not be that high as it was in case of first baby. No doubt, becoming pregnant for the first time is a life changing event for a woman. This article is an attempt to help the pregnant women who are conscious to know about the step by step progress of their baby along with other useful information that will help you during your pregnancy to have a healthy pregnancy.

First two weeks of pregnancy almost went in uncertainty as majority of the women don't have idea that they are pregnant. Generally, week 1 and week 2 in pregnancy usually belong to the ovulation and fertilization processes. In the initial two weeks, estrogen and progesterone are produced by your body in the preparation of ovulation process, where the egg is released by ovaries. If you are not on any contraceptives, this egg more likely be fertilized and travels through fallopian tube down into the uterus. In uterus, the egg will remain for the coming 40 weeks.

Early Signs and Symptoms of Pregnancy

Besides the uncertainty of being pregnant during the initial two weeks, some women may experience some signs and symptoms of pregnancy. Not all the women experience these so nothing to worry about. However, in the coming weeks these signs and symptoms become more prominent for you. During the first week, the most common symptom that a woman can feel is cramping on either or both of the two sides of the abdomen. This is because of the ovulation process.

Another sign that can appear during the initial weeks of pregnancy is the release of clear fluid from the body. If you found this discharge clear, slippery or tensile, you may be at peak of your fertilization process. The other thing that you can notice during first or second week of pregnancy is the fluctuating basal temperature. It is important to note here that monitoring basal temperature will help you know whether you are in the process of conceiving or not. For the first two weeks in your menstruation, the body temperature normally falls lower than normal, naturally between 97.0-97.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature will slightly rise during your ovulation period. This happened because of the increasing levels of progesterone in your body. During an ovulation process, an increase in 0.4-0.6 degrees is common. Also note that after successfully becoming pregnant by the 2nd week your body temperature will remain on a higher side (slightly) throughout the pregnancy period.

A basal thermometer can be used to record the basal temperature. The best time to record your basal temperature is to record it in the morning before getting out of your bed for different physical activities alter your body temperature and you will not get the right temperature in that case.
