Pregnancy at Week 6 and 7

 By: Tauqeer Hassan
6 Weeks Pregnant

By the start of 6th week, you may be facing some terrible morning sickness. At this stage, almost one third of the pregnant women face nausea. This all happens because of the rapid hormonal changes that are occurring in your body and you are not aware of them. At this stage, estrogen level in your body is quite high which can also cause these problems. However, these problems don't last long and disappear with the time.

You are now in your 6th week of pregnancy and the signs of pregnancy will become more prominent by now. Nausea will be the most disturbing factor at this stage of pregnancy. It is suggested to drink lots of water to keep you hydrated to avoid any unfavorable condition. Though, nausea is more prominent at the morning time but it can at any time of the day. You may feel that your breasts are becoming heavy and areolas are becoming darker as well.

If you are a smoker or drinker, it is the time to quit all these bad habits as they can cause harm to you and your baby as well. Turn to the healthy diet plan. Talk to your midwife or OB/GYN about your diet. Also avoid cat littering at this stage of pregnancy as this can lead to toxoplasmosis that is extremely harmful for your pregnancy.

7 Weeks Pregnant

With the every passing week, the symptoms of pregnancy will become more frequent and prominent. Now you are in the 7th week of your pregnancy, nausea, morning sickness, constipation, excessive saliva and vaginal discharge become the major symptoms. In some women, pimples may appear on the face because of the extensive hormonal changes that are occurring in their bodies. Wash your face at least twice a day with a soft cleaner and drink lots of water. After consulting your midwife, start consuming vitamin B6 to help control nausea and skin problems.

The bulge in your abdomen begins to become more prominent. Constipation and session of indigestion may occur. Dizziness and lightheadedness may occur in some women. Anything bugging you frequently should need to be shared with your doctor or midwife.

At this stage, a mucus plug develops in the opening of cervical canal and secured the uterus so as to keep it safe from external infections. When you will be ready to expect a baby, this plug will be discarded when your cervix expands.

Your Baby's Development

At this stage, your baby will grow to the size of 0.2-0.52 inch in length with a weight of about 0.03 ounces. Hands and genital tubercle begin to appear at this stage. However, you cannot diagnose whether you are carrying a baby boy or baby girl at this early stage. Nasal structure also begins to develop.

As you know that your baby's kidneys pass through three stages and at this particular point the second stage of kidneys development will complete. The heart of your baby is fully developed by now. The eyes begin to appear like two black tiny spots. Limbs bud begins to appear. The tongue of your baby is also developing at this time. The pituitary glands also begin to develop in the center of brain.
