Vladimir Radmanovic

Holding jersey number 10 is Vladimir Radmanovic. This 6'10” LA Lakers member plays small forward/power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers and was acquired by the team in July 2006. He was born on November 19, 1980 in Trebinje, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslavia.

Before entering the NBA in 2001, Radmanovic played basketball for the Red Start Belgrade and KK FMP Zeleznik. He then signed up for the 2001 NBA Draft and was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics as the 12th pick. He played consistently well for the Sonics and became a candidate for the NBA Most Improved Player Award in the season of 2003 to 2004. Radmanovic alsi helped the Sonics win their first-round match against the Sacramento Kings in the 2004-05 season.

On the following year, Radmanovic declined a $42 million, six-year contract with the Sonics and instead took a year’s deal. As an unrestricted free agent, Radmanovic could transfer teams whenever he wanted. So by Valentine’s Day of 2006, he was swapped by the Sonics for the Los Angeles Clippers’ power forward, Chris Wilcox. During his stint with the Clippers, Radmanovic was able to improve his performance.

When he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, Radmanovic accepted a five-year, $31 million contract. He was persuaded to join the team by his Lakers friends, Magic Johnson, Vlade Divac, Kobe Bryant, and coach Phil Jackson. Radmanovic became one of the players who helped to increase Lakers tickets sales and earned for himself the titles of “Vlad Rad,” “space cadet,’ and Jackson’s “favorite Martian” for being able to shoot wild three-pointers.

Sun Yue

Sun Yue plays for the Los Angeles Lakers as a point guard, shooting guard, and small forward while wearing jersey number 9. This 6'9” player was born on November 6, 1985 in Cangzhou, Hebei in China.

Sun played for the Chinese national basketball team and the Beijing Aoshen Olympian before joining the NBA. The Beijing Aoshen Olympian was the only basketball team in China that was privately owned. Sun and his teammates trained to improve their skills by competing against other hired players.

When already in the NBA, Sun was listed as the fifth player from China after Yao Ming, Yi Jianlian, Mengke Bateer, and Wang Zhizhi. What enabled Sun to be recognized by NBA scouts is his height and skills in playing basketball. His records in the Orlando Pre-Draft camp showed measurements of a 5.1% body fat ratio, a time of 10.68 seconds in lane agility, a 34-inch vertical leap, a wingspan of 6'9” , and a standing reach of 8'9”.

It was in the 2007 NBA Draft that Sun was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers. He was the 40th overall pick, selected at the second round of the draft. Despite the fact he was called “China’s Magic Johnson,” Sun preferred to be called instead as the Monkey King.
