Ringing of ears is a problem being experienced by millions of individuals. Its medical term is tinnitus, which is defined as the perception of sound in the ears or head absent an outside source. Its sufferers come in all ages - children, adolescents, old. It may also come as a hissing, buzzing, roaring, or clicking noise, and may vary in pitch. It tends to get louder when the environment is very quiet, so some of its sufferers have a tough time sleeping soundly.

We might ask what tinnitus really is. Is it a disease? An illness? The truth about it is that it is not a disease. Rather, it may be a symptom of diseases which are more serious than this ringing of ears. These include some blood circulation related medical conditions such as high blood pressure, anemia, atherosclerosis, and malformation of the capillaries. Allergies, ear infections, blocked ear canal, Meniere's disease, age-related hearing loss, repeated exposure to loud noise, and the use of certain medications are also cause this unwanted sound.

Since tinnitus is technically not an actual disease, there's currently no known cure for it. However, it shouldn't concern us too much, since there are all kinds of treatments that can help mitigate the effects of tinnitus. Many of these treatments are natural and pragmatic, since they can be done on our own and without costing us too much money. First, don't spend lots of time in environments where your ears are going to end up hearing lots of loud noises. If you absolutely have to (for work, etc.), make sure that you're wearing earplugs, protective ear muffs, or some other hearing protection device. Second, some chemicals, such as salt, caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine, exacerbate the symptoms of tinnitus, so try cutting down on your consumption of those. You may need to change your habits and lifestyle a bit if you smoke three packs of cigarettes a day or always start your morning with four cups of coffee. Replace those chemicals with healthy vitamins and minerals such as choline, zinc, protein, and vitamins A, B, and E. Increasing daily exercise will also help combat tinnitus by increasing cardiovascular health, specifically, circulation.

When natural remedies alone are not enough, the irritating noise can be made less noticeable through the use of devices like maskers or hearing aids. A good, side-effect-free option is to try homeopathic tinnitus remedies or herbal supplements. You could also try some of the various other alternative therapies, such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, meditation, or reflexology. If stress management is needed, some available options are counseling, tinnitus retraining therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Above the ones mentioned, getting stressed is the thing to avoid as it just worsens the ringing of ears. Sufferers with a positive attitude toward their condition would find it easier to bear tinnitus.
