The DV Station can also provide timing reference information to lower-stratum servers if needed. For instance, one DV Station with its own GPS clock can act as a stratum-1 server for other machines on a LAN. Or, a DV Station with pointers to one or more external stratum-1 or stratum-2 NTP servers can act as a stratum-2 or stratum-3 server for other machines on its LAN; and so on.

DV Stations equipped with the optional GPS receiver can directly receive timing reference information from the network of orbiting GPS satellites. To reliably receive the GPS signal it is important the GPS antenna installed in a location with a clear and unobstructed view of the sky, ideally on a rooftop. This step is critical, as obstacles such as neighboring buildings or even reflective window coatings can reduce the signal strength to the point that the GPS receiver will not work. The GPS antenna is connected to the GPS Ant TNC connector on the back panel of the DV Station. All DV Stations that need to synchronize to the NTP clock are connected to each other via Ethernet.

Running a reliable time server on the DV Station first requires a reliable source of timing GPS reference. The following procedure first verifies that the timing information obtained from the GPS receiver can be used by the NTP daemon to maintain the DV Station’s system clock within a very small offset from the true UTC time. Use ping to make sure that the DVStation can communicate with the remote NTP server. If ping reports that the server’s network is unreachable, temporarily add a default gateway entry to the DVStation’s routing tables, enabling it to use the local network connection. To avoid causing problems for applications which rely on the value of the system lock to implement timers, the NTP daemon adjusts the value of the DVStation’s system clock very slowly. If the starting value of the system clock is too far away from the true UTC time, the NTP daemon will refuse to adjust it. Therefore, use the external NTP server to set the DV Station’s system clock to a close approximation of the true UTC time, and then restart the daemon.

Verify that the DVStation’s system clock remains synchronised with the remote NTP servers, ideally a time difference of less than 128ms between server and client is required to maintain NTP synchronization. The typical accuracy on the Internet ranges from about 5ms to 100ms, possibly varying with network delays.

A computer network refers to an interconnected group of computers. The networks may be classified according to the network layer at which they function depending upon the basic reference models. The reference models may differ from industry to industry, just like the five-layer Internet Protocol Suite model. Computer Networks are classified on the basis of various factors like scale, connection method, network relationships and protocol.

Computers were designed to make things easier for us and a lot faster. That is also true with using computers for video editing. Computers are being used for video editing nowadays because it saves a lot of time. If you are familiar with computers it will be a lot easy and you can finish the job in about an hour. Using computers for video editing is known as Digital Video Editing. All you have to do is just take a video or a shot then connect your camcorder to the computer. After that you can start editing it and add whatever filters or titles you want to put.

If you have as few as two computers in your home, you can reap a number of benefits by connecting them with a network cable and two NICs (Network Interface Cards). Equally, if you run a small business from your house, and have maybe five or six systems, benefits can be seen by networking.

Wireless networks have become incredibly popular – so much so that virtually all new laptop computers have wireless network cards included as part of a set of standard features. As a matter of fact, customers will offer salespeople a strange, blank look if wireless networking is not included as one of the standard features. People love the convenience of being able to boot up the laptop and surf the net wherever they may be.
