Sinus Headache, The Cause, The Cure

 By: Richard Poulin
Sinus Headaches result from mucous building up in the sinuses, causing pressure and pain. The build-up of mucous is due to sinus inflammation and constriction. The consequential pain can be felt around the eyes, on the checks, temples and forehead depending upon the individual.

Sinuses are primarily located in the front of the head. These air filled cavities are normally filled with air and are part of our airways. Sinus Headaches occur when the mucous membranes become inflamed and the cavities blocked by mucous which is unable to drain. Trapped mucous builds -up and along with it so does pressure and this leads to a headache.

Some people suffer more from Sinus Headaches than others and for them they can be quite debilitating.

The symptoms may include:
- Pain and pressure around the eyes, ears, across the cheeks and forehead
- Occasionally, a diffuse pain in their upper teeth area
- Fever and cold shivers
- Facial swelling
- Head pain that resembles a tension headache or migraine
Sinusitis usually accompanies sinus Headaches but not always

Here are some conditions which may also coexist:
- Colored mucous
- Post nasal Drip
- Blocked nasal passages
- Throat irritations or coughing
- A lightheaded feeling

Causes of Sinus Headaches:
Allergies or sinus infections may cause inflammation and swelling of the mucous membranes. In cold weather, the severity of sinus headaches may increase.
Look to your environment for allergic culprits; smoke, mold spore and dust mites are possible examples. Household allergens frequently prove to be present in most cases. Respiratory infections can also cause the inflammation that leads to sinus headaches.

Some ideas on preventing or managing these headaches:
- Plenty of fluid intake will calm the allergic reaction and help wash out the mucous
- Blow your nose frequently . It opens up the airways.
- Take hot showers to breath warm, moist air that may loosen the mucous.
- For the immediate pain alternate cold and hot compresses across the nose and forehead.
- Saline sprays are great to flush out allergens and dilute mucous. Moreover they are very safe.
- Change bedding often and be certain to dust and wash your bedroom floors regularly.
- Conventional drugstore medicines have serious unwanted effects when over-used. If you have recurring or frequent sinus Headaches consider using natural, safe and effective alternatives to manage both pain and allergies.

See your doctor if you experience:
- Headache symptoms that last for an extended period of time and don't improve when taking sinus remedies.
- Severe, sudden headaches that last or get worse over time.
- A sudden headache that's the worst you've ever experienced.
- Severe headaches localized to one eye, accompanied by redness of the eye (possible acute glaucoma)
- Headaches accompanied by memory loss, confusion, loss of balance, change in speech or vision, or loss of strength in or numbness/tingling in any limb.
- A headache with concurrent stiff neck, nausea or vomiting.

Here I begin a short series that hones in on my top picks for treating migraine pain naturally. There are several natural supplements and herbal remedies that just might make painkillers unnecessary -- and even shorten the duration of a migraine episode. This is the introduction to that series.
Migraines have for many years been a cause for great discomfort and pain. Some cases of migraines are so severe in that they disrupt day to day activities for as long as three days. For this reason, vitamin migraine help techniques have been devised to help people cope with migraines or even eradicated them completely.
Headaches are sometimes a symptom of a disease or disorder such as influenza or sub arachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Most headaches, however, occur independently of other disorders, develop gradually, clear up in few hours and leave no after effects.
