Sinus Headaches result from mucous building up in the sinuses, causing pressure and pain. The build-up of mucous is due to sinus inflammation and constriction. The consequential pain can be felt around the eyes, on the checks, temples and forehead depending upon the individual.
Sinuses are primarily located in the front of the head. These air filled cavities are normally filled with air and are part of our airways. Sinus Headaches occur when the mucous membranes become inflamed and the cavities blocked by mucous which is unable to drain. Causes of Sinus Headaches:
Allergies or sinus infections may cause inflammation and swelling of the mucous membranes. In cold weather, the severity of sinus headaches may increase.
Look to your environment for allergic culprits; smoke, mold spore and dust mites are possible examples. Household allergens frequently prove to be present in most cases. Respiratory infections can also cause the inflammation that leads to sinus headaches.
