What are allergies?

Allergies are an immune system reaction to usually harmless elements that it considers as harmful. The allergy-causing substances are called allergens.

How do they occur?

Your immune system is your own natural defense against infection and other foreign material. Before you can have a reaction to a particular substance, your immune system must first be sensitized to it. This implies that a bodys allergy can only be developed once it has been exposed to a substance.

Once sensitized, body reactions will appear every time you have contact with that substance. Many substances can cause allergic reactions. The most common are pollen, latex, animal dander, mold, foods, insect stings, medicines, dust and dust mites.

Allergic skin reactions can be caused by different kinds of allergens. Hay fever, asthma, and skin allergy are the most common allergic conditions.

Airborne allergens such as mold and the pollen of trees, grasses, and weeds cause hay fever.

Pollens, molds, and house dust can trigger asthma attacks.

There are many possible causes for allergic skin reactions. Examples of elements that can initiate allergy reactions when they touch your skin are hair or skin care products, dyes in leather or fabric, nickel in jewelry and belt buckles, and poison oak or poison ivy. Eczema is a dermal condition that causes dryness, itching, fine scales or flaking, and sometimes mild redness. The cause of eczema is usually not known.

Common foods that may cause allergy skin symptoms are eggs, milk, shellfish, nuts, and peanuts. Food allergies usually occur in children, who may outgrow them.

An allergic reaction may sometimes be severe. This is called anaphylaxis. It is a life-threatening emergency that can affect breathing and circulation within several minutes. Some of the more common causes of severe allergic reactions are insect stings, certain foods, and drugs such as penicillin.

What are the symptoms?

The type and severity of the reaction determine the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Common symptoms of allergies are rash, watery eyes, stomach cramps, itching, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, swelling, and diarrhea.

How are they diagnosed?

Your healthcare provider will ask about your history of symptoms and skin reactions, and examine you.

You may have tests to find out the allergens that are causing your allergies. Skin scratch or prick tests are the best methods for most people. For these tests your provider looks for reactions to tiny amounts of suspected allergens placed under your skin. To help find what you are allergic to, you may require to have blood tests.

To identify a food allergy, your provider may suggest you to stop eating certain foods to find out which one is causing you allergies. Then you can carefully try eating these foods again, one by one, to see if your symptoms come back.

Then, you can have your skin allergies treated with BIOSKINBALM, a biological skin care solution designed to alleviate your skin symptoms without leaving undesired side effects.

Keratosis Pilaris is a skin problem that leaves a 'chicken skin' appearance on your skin. This skin problem is often mistaken for acne and the most common thing individuals do is to pick and squeeze on those small and hard bumps. Facial keratosis pilaris can leave scarring, so let's find out which treatments are available to deal with this skin condition.
Keratosis pilaris is an inherited condition of the skin in which the hair follicles become clogged with hair and devitalized cells from the external layer of skin. This occurs as the skin tries to regenerate itself. Usually, dead skin cells would shed off rapidly, but when this genetic condition is present, they get trapped within hair follicles. The follicles get irritated and inflamed generating papules; tiny rough pink bumps on the surface of the skin. They are numerous in the afflicted area and each one is a horny plug, usually rather red but only rarely itchy and never sore.
To define a stretch mark is not an easy task. We find ourselves in this situation because we must be sure to take into account what generates a stretch mark and makes it visible. The main idea we must expose here is the fact that a stretch mark doesn't just appear, it establishes itself in between your skin layers and is articulated by a procedure that is related to the stretching of the skin.
It's very unfortunate that our skin doesn't just bounce back after it has been stretched by pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss. It may instead become decorated by a form scarring scientifically known as striae or more commonly stretch marks. Stretch marks often commence as a reddish or purplish color and then become glossier, appearingshowing streaked in silver or white. Stretch marks occur in the middle layer of the skin which allows it to keep its shape, known as the dermis. When the dermis is constantly stressed and stretched it can be broken down leaving behing stretch marks.
