Entrance to these courses is based only on State Level Entrance Examination.

Each state in India conducts entrance examinations for admission to M.B.B.S, B.D.S. and Paramedical courses to the various state medical, dental and paramedical universities, colleges and institutions. Every state also has a different reservation policy.

Courses in Medicine – MBBS

To take up a career in medicine, one has to pursue a MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree course. This programme includes four and a half years of classroom study that is divided into three professionals of three semesters each. It includes a wide range of subjects such as surgery, radiology, pathology, dermatology, biochemistry, psychiatry, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology. One has to study anatomy and preventive medicine in the course of classroom study period. The final 1½ years are basically meant for internship. During this particular period, medical students are involved in clinical work in the various departments of hospitals.

Taking specialization in specific areas:

After taking up the basic course, medical students have to decide the area in which they will specialize. Plastic surgery, nephrology, cardiology, pediatrics etc., are the courses taken at the post-graduate level by medical graduates.

Courses in Medicine - Dentistry [B.D.S]

The degree course in dentistry is of full four years duration and is followed by a year of residency. After gaining the B.D.S degree, a student becomes eligible to pursue a two year post-graduate course with specialization.

Entrance for BDS is on all India basis. All India Entrance Examination are conducted by following institutions in India.

Courses in Medicine - Para-Medical Courses
Diploma and degree for Para-Medical courses are available at the undergraduate level. There are of two and three-year duration respectively excluding an in-house training period which is of six months. Institutions offering Diploma and Bachelors degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering include the Rehabilitation Council, Ministry of Welfare (New Delhi), The National Institute of the orthopaedicary, Handicapped (Calcutta), Institute of the Physically Handicapped (New Delhi) and the National Institute for Rehabilitation Training and Research (Cuttack, Orissa).
