The United States has more than 3000 colleges and universities and offers outstanding programs in virtually all fields. Both traditional and professional courses are available at the undergraduate level, while at the graduate level there are many professional courses. Degrees in the US are also accepted worldwide. And because of this, over a half a million from foreign countries come to the US with study purposes every year.

You can take the help of the Internet to know about colleges and universities and the courses they offer. Almost all educational institutions in the US have websites and they provide information on the courses they offer. If you have decided what course you want to pursue, then you can go to the next step of finding a college or a university.

There are many reputed universities and you can focus on any of the institutes. If you have ideas in which area of the US you want to stay, then you can go after two to three universities or colleges. Then you can enquire about the fees and other expenses in the course. Studying in the US is expensive and you should plan your study as per the budget you have for the course.

After selecting two-three colleges, you can see their websites or call them for more details about the course, the admission processes, eligibility criteria, fees and the future of the course, etc. You should know that American universities admit new students twice a year. The largest intake is usually in the autumn, students are also admitted in the spring semester which starts in January.

You have to appear in 'standardized tests"designed to measure students"aptitude for further study. If your native language is not English, you must also demonstrate your proficiency by taking the TOFEL or Test of English as a Foreign Language.
