Taking Advantage of Pinterest Analytics

 By: Nate Tennant
Since it’s launch in 2010, Pinterest has become an increasingly useful and relevant social media platform to grow your business online. It’s aesthetically pleasing interface and focus on visual content appeals to Internet users from diverse demographics. Pinterest currently boasts over 100 million active users and is valued at around $11 billion. The platform has proved to be especially useful for businesses, offering a free analytics section that reports detailed information about your audience and account performance. Its analytics interface is broken down into three parts: your pinterest profile, your audience, and activity from your website. Social media management services can help you understand these analytics and in turn, help you grow your business online.

Your Pinterest Profile

The “Your Pinterest Profile” section of Pinterest Analytics displays data on various types of user engagement: impressions, repins, clicks, and all-time.

Impressions reflect are the number of times your pins show up on users’ feeds and search results.

Repins are the number of times that another Pinterest user has re-pinned your content to their own profile.

Clicks are the number of times a user has clicked on your pins, this usually means they’re interested in learning more about the pin and followed it’s accommodating link to a blog or website.

All-time displays most popular pins of all-time, this is particularly helpful to see exactly what topics and imagery have captured your audience the most.

All of these engagements can be improved through pinning rich content that users want to learn more about, quality images with ALT tags, and descriptions containing valuable information and keywords.

Your Audience

This facet of Pinterest Analytics provides insight into the details of who your audience is. You will find the demographics of your audience including location, gender, and language. Along with getting a sense of these basic traits, you’ll also find intel about their interests. This section will show you popular boards that your audience follows, and the top interests they share.

Another great feature of Audience is the ability to see what devices your audience is pinning from. On the upper right hand corner of the audience page, there’s a drop down button that will be set in default to “all apps”. When you press this button it will show all of the apps that your audience is using, and you have the option to view data from only one app at a time to get a sense of which ones are popular with your audience.

Activity from Your Website

This section is very similar to “Your Pinterest Profile” in terms of the data it measures. But instead of activity that originates from Pinterest, it displays activity that originated from your website and was directed to Pinterest. Along with impressions, repins, clicks, and all-time, you will find the tabs “Original Pins” and “Pin it Button.” The original pins tab shows you the 50 newest pins shared directly from your site. The “Pin it Button” tab shows how many times your pin it button has been seen by your site visitors, how many times it has been clicked, and how many times people have used it to pin from your website.

As I am launching a free magazine in a small town in Florida, I wanted to be as resourceful as possible while still being able to provide some content that is interesting and well written. Your site has all the variables in the mix. Excellent Site hitting all the notes in the scale sort of speak.
