A difficulty commonly shared by persons who suffer from tinnitus is the inability to sleep well, so many of these persons search for revolutionary therapies to help them resolve this problem. Individuals who have this disorder experience the ringing sound as being much louder at night when their surroundings are quieter in comparison with the noise volume of daytime life. At nighttime, when the majority of people are sleeping, tinnitus sufferers desperately wish to, but are unable to, take refuge in the relief of sleep.

One type of therapy for this problem, which can be used for those persons who are experiencing difficulty sleeping, involves masking of the noise. This modality employs white noise to distract the individual from the ringing in his or her ears. This type of treatment, however, is only of short-term benefit.

Unfortunately, white noise can only be a temporary treatment. If the sufferer is wearing the masker, he will have some relief from the noise. However, once the masker is removed, the noise returns immediately. Because of this shortcoming, tinnitus sufferers prefer to have treatments that are much more effective in allowing them to sleep longer and more soundly.

Some medical experts believe that melatonin, an effective sleep aid, will help sufferers get the sleep they need. Melatonin, however, should only be taken with the guidance of a doctor. Although you can buy melatonin tablets over the counter, the dosage taken should be carefully regulated by a doctor. In addition, because it is a substance that is also manufactured within our bodies, the time it is taken needs to be controlled so as not to interfere.

In addition to melatonin, it has also been shown that a large dose of beta-carotene has reduced the symptoms of tinnitus. Most treatments for this condition contain Vitamin A as their principal ingredient. Once ingested, beta-carotene is transformed into Vitamin A, but only enough to meet the body's needs. If any extra beta-carotene is created, the body will simply excrete it.

The use of melatonin and beta-carotene as new tinnitus treatment is highly welcomed by those who have tinnitus. Any help they can get in minimizing the ringing in the ears is certainly a welcome news. Vitamin A can actually help those who have tinnitus by boosting their immune systems. A healthy immune system makes them feel good about themselves, thus they don't feel the ringing noise in their ears that much.
