Visiting the doctor's office is a far cry today than it was just five years ago. The speed of CR system technology has made life better not only for you but also the entire medical field. No where is this trend more visible than in the medical imaging field due in large part to computed radiography and CR solutions with the help of CR software.

Over the last few years, the health field has seen numerous technological advancements especially in the area of radiology due to the introduction of newer technologies like Sonography, CR solutions, DICOM solutions, CT, MRI and DSA. As a matter of fact, all of these changes has prompted the alteration of the terminology of this specialty from radiology to medical imaging. After all, what else can you call a CR system?

Computed radiography, also refereed to as CR solutions, implements similar equipment and technology to conventional radiography except that an imaging plate and CR software is used in place of a film to create an image. So instead of the film being developed in a darkroom with chemical trays, the imaging plate is run through a DICOM solutions computer scanner to read and digitize the image. This digitized image is then viewed and enhanced using CR software which works very similar to a conventional image-processing software. It has all of the same traits such as contrast, brightness, and zoom.

There are numerous advantages of obtaining digital images through CR systems over conventional radiology:

Image quality improvement: Image of the chest, spine and bones are of exceptional quality using CR solutions with have better and more precise details.

No need for retakes – Those clunky, old-fashioned conventional X-Rays are still a manual process. It requires a technician to set the exposure depending on the size of the patient and this can be done wrong resulting in an over or under exposure. If this happens, the image needs to be corrected by repeating the X-Ray after exposure factors are readjusted. In the end, you have the patient exposed to additional radiation as well as a financial loss to the doctor's office since the first film is thrown away.

With digital X-Rays from a CR system, the exposure factors are not required to be so accurate. The variations in exposure can be adjusted on the monitor after the image has been obtained thanks to the CR software. A near perfect image can then be printed every time.

No loss of Films – Often times things get lost. Film is no different, especially in a busy department. The film then needs to be redone, resulting in additional radiation exposure and loss of revenue. You don't have this problem in DICOM solutions imaging.

Multiple images on one film - In a Barium X-ray study or IVU, about eight to ten films can be taken. With CR solutions, all these images are placed on one film. Any abnormal portions can be enlarged, highlighted and labeled thanks to the technology of CR software.

Images can be provided on medium other than film – In a CR system, images can be documented and stored on CD, high quality paper or viewed on a monitor.
