Auctions are a normal part of the American lifestyle. Auctions are considered a popular and effective way of establishing the real market value of goods and distributing them to people.

In the U.S., auctions of various types of products take place in many places all the time. And did you know that animals are a major part of these auctions? Yes, farm animals and even the exotic ones. In recent years, they have become an accepted and legitimate form of trading different kinds of animals on the internet.

Animal auctions happen in all areas of the U.S. Animals sold for these events are exhibited in pens and transported to the buyer’s property. The animals sold usually come with a veterinary certificate and are inspected by government people. After an auction participant buys the animal, the new owner is already responsible in feeding and caring for the animal.

The animals for sale are usually offered by private owners and breeding centers. And while many people have complained about unsanitary conditions during these auctions, supports argue that these events are not abusive as they are regulated by state and federal inspectors and sell to reputable breeders and responsible and caring private owners.

Both buyers and sellers can benefit from animals sales or auctions. At live auctions, buyers are able to see and inspect the condition of the animals they wish to buy, whereas on the internet, the animals can be seen 24/7 from the comfort of the farm or center where they were born.

A major drawback to animal auctions is the possibility of animals dying after the auction because of stress factors associated with translocation, inferior transportation and inability to adapt to the new environment. Some animals may originate from areas very different from the ones they are to be released making their adaptation difficult. On line auctions reduce the mortality rate because there is a minimum or no stress involved.

Exotic animal auctions

Although we don’t endorse, nor accept these kinds of auctions in our website, the truth of the matter is that exotic animals of different kinds from tigers, lions to bears and primates are not exempted from the auctions around the world.

Origin of auctions

Auctions date back to as early as 500 B.C. The first ever recorded auction were Babylonian wedding auctions selling women for the purpose of marriage. The Romans followed suit selling their spoils of war and eventually personal property at public auctions.

In the U.S., it was only after the colonization of America when the auction process was considered an accepted form of selling furs, tobacco, corn and other necessities. As the country became more progressive, other commodities including animals were included in the auction.

While animal sales may be a great way to purchase your potential pet or livestock on line, it’s always important to consider the condition of the animal before deciding to buy one. And after you’ve bid or buy for your preferred animal, make sure that you feed it well and care for it in your home.
