Among the world's most popular water sports is scuba diving. Many are drawn to the idea of exploring the underwater and its mysteries. Such things as exploring shipwrecks, swimming with the fishes, and even sharks is just too exciting for some people to leave alone. Certification is usually not a problem, but diving equipment can be costly. There are many rental shops to solve this problem. They are usually close to the best diving locations.

One of the very best places to dive in the world is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You will see hundreds of species of tropical fish, as well as a variety of marine mammals. The reef itself is awe-inspiring. There are all kinds of beautiful places to stay and the weather is always perfect. If you haven't yet been certified or if you are a beginning diver, you can join expeditions offered by a number of companies. They will transport you to the Barrier Reef and teach you how to dive. If scuba diving sounds like too much, then you might find snorkeling more to your liking. You can still experience the Great Barrier Reef, a natural phenomenon that all water and nature lovers should see. If you ever travel "Down Under", don't miss this beautiful, protected oasis.

Another amazing reef lies off the coast of Mexico on its eastern coast. It's the second largest scuba diving area in the world. This reef is in the Caribbean Ocean, which is warm water. There you will view tropical fish of numerous varieties, living coral reef, and if it's your lucky day you might even run into a sea turtle or two. Sadly, the reef has sustained terrible damage from recent hurricanes. Since this area thrives on tourism, you will find a number of adventure tours to transport you to the best diving locations.

The Mayan Riviera, as it's known, has resorts that are all-inclusive. If you stay in one of them, you will learn to dive in the pool, be certified, and be whisked off to fabulous scuba diving locales by a professional guide. To avoid being scammed by someone not really qualified, choose a resort with a solid reputation.

These aren't the only areas where e you can find great scuba diving. Besides coral reefs, many love finding and exploring wrecks. Two wonderful areas for this activity are Florida and the Spanish coast.

A word of caution: if you are diving in an area where there is a coral reef, please do not touch the reef at all. It is very sensitive and can die at the slightest touch. Unfortunately it can take many years for a reef to regenerate itself so extra precautions must be taken.

Scuba diving is a wonderful activity that is enjoyed by many different walks of life.
