This is the most recurrent motivation for become and independent consultant, many people experience an instinctual desire to work for themselves. Do you want more control over your time? Do you believe you can make more money working for yourself? You are aware of the risks this implicate and you may be ready to trade the "security" of a fixed paycheck and provided benefits, for the challenge of be the owner of your business.

"I want to release my creativity."
The desire to express your creativity maybe is the driving force behind your goal to become an independent consultant.

"People recognize you as expert."
Many people become consultants because other people recognize them as experts. Are you the person other employees always come to because you are the only one they know who has experience with a specific type of problem. Or you have a skill no body else has for a certain operation. Even if other employees have similar skills they come to you for help. People in your neighborhood know you as the guy to come for advise.

"I have been Downsized"
No one likes to lose his or her job, but this maybe is the incentive that you need if you canalize the right way, this because leave your job for your self is a tough decision but the decision if made for you, a felt of chock and betrayal but relief at the same time is common this as forced you to take you dream of work for your self seriously.

"I can do this myself, so why am I working for this place."
Many people start consulting because they see themselves already doing consulting for someone else. Does your company pay you to provide a service to its customers, charging them a fee for your time? If you already provide consulting to your employer's clients, it does not take long until you realize you can provide the same exact service as an independent consultant to your own clients.

"I want to work in a related field."
Many people become consultants because a new development in a related field creates a sudden demand for experts.
