There are three factors in particular which you need in your planning of any whitewater rafting trip, and these are: to start slow, as you will progress to a higher level with the more experience you gain; to assemble a crew; and to be okay with getting wet, and to not be scared. Understanding about the rapids themselves is important, as if you understand the water you are rafting on, you will feel more comfortable in knowing what to do when you are out there. Rapids are the result of the vertical descent of a particular body of water over a given horizontal distance. Rapids are generally classified as being on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being calm and 5 being extremely harsh.
